Okay, I went to see this today, and it was charming. I saw the 3D version, and as far as I'm concerned the technology has not yet been perfected. For one thing, the glasses are too dark.
I also saw the French version, because for animated features, I don't think it makes much difference, since animated characters are dubbed no matter which language they speak. In the French version, the old man is played by Charles Aznavour, and that's enough of a reason to see the French version as far as I am concerned.
Has anybody else seen 'Up'? I don't think I have ever seen an animated film that brought tears to my eyes within 20 minutes (the flashback of the old man's life).

I never heard of it! Details, please. You say it was dubbed into French -- where was it made? (dubbing can work: Homer & Marge sound great in Spanish.)

There were posters for the film in my Avignon thread. As there is no doubt that it will win the next Oscar for best animated film, you must at least of had a hint of its existence.

Up should be nominated for Best Picture. But like Wall-e, it'll be snubbed; while we Americans claim to be fond of all types of cinema, we have a hard time taking animation seriously. Which is probably why some of the best animated features to come out over the past few years have come out of France and Japan. K2, don't give it a lock quite yet, though. Miyazaki's latest has yet to grace our shores. Once it does, then I'll start placing bets. www.apple.com/trailers/disney/ponyo/ www.apple.com/trailers/disney/up/Bixa, Up was created by Pixar. Their studios are about 2.2 miles from my house in Emeryville, CA.

*waves* Hi, Nic ~~ where have you been hiding?
I am watching Up right now online. I love it! Kerouac is right -- it gets you right off the bat. What's amazing about the Pixar stuff is that they're all so different, and that they truly appeal to grownups as well. I'll watch the trailer links as soon as Up is finished.
One of my favorite scenes so far -- when the balloons pass the window where the little girl is playing in her room, and she is struck with wonder by all the colored light.
Bye ~~ see y'all when my show is over!

I absolutely recommend Up!
Nope, never heard of it. I remember thinking those were great posters of balloons in the Avignon thread, but didn't examine them closely. Do I need to start reading more "entertainment" news?

It actually was the film that was selected to open the Cannes Film Festival this year. That in itself would have been enough of a reason to pay attention to it.
