Thank you Bixa, I cannot put into words my excitement of gazing and inspecting all of these photos. Gorgeous colors and wonderful subjects. Market day for you is a joyous occasion. Cheers, Mich

Sorry for the late response, but thank you both for your nice comments. Mick, we refer to the produce in the supermarket closest to me as "compost". Once you start hitting the market here, your standards of freshness shoot way up and supermarket prices become appalling. Please, please do remember the camera the next time you're going to that London market. Incidentally, there is a list of market threads in the Featured section. (button at top of main thread) Mich, it's true that I feel happiness being in all that bustle, surrounded by gorgeous produce. Thank you for understanding that. I hope the pics are firming your resolve to come down here to visit!

Frankly, I have never seen an uninteresting market, even the pathetic Russian market in Dubai -- one of the most unexpected that I have ever seen. Not long after the collapse of the Soviet Union, as you know, things were not going terribly well in Russia. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates was one of the few non-ex-Soviet countries that did not require a visa for Russian citizens.
I found myself in Dubai for a seminar and during my free time, I wandered around the port -- and came across the Russian market. It was a bunch of sad babushkas selling the most pathetic items -- combs, plastic knives and forks, paper clips, balls of twine... I felt so sorry for them, wondering how they had ended up there to eke out such a miserable existence.
And yet that happens so often in various places around the world.

Can't wait to hear about your visit in June, Mich, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll get here eventually.
Interesting point about what markets can tell us, once we get pass the color &/or exoticism, Kerouac.
