because I spend all my free time on here (and the other site)...
I catch myself dreaming up ideas for photo essays. Actually uploading/downloading pics to be inserted into the prose takes me ages...perhaps I'll get used to it soon.
Do you spend a lot of time on-line?
*now I'm off to do my ironing and wield a duster*

I am embarrassed to say that I can often be found dreaming of OP's, photo essays etc.
I often rush through tasks so that I can get back here to see what everyone is up to.

I still have a week of letting my flat decline -- and then I have guests for 3 days, so I am absolutely certain that I will do the housecleaning before then.

Cleaning houses is one of the worst jobs in the world.

I genuinely loathe housework and only do it because the alternative is being found dead in filth.
Really, I envy those people who get satisfaction from cleaning house & wish I knew how to "catch" being that way.

I had a friend who lasted about a year. She was the opposite of me. She was up before dawn praying and writing good thoughts (she hoped to publish these , perhaps she still has her hopes up)... then she'd settle down to thoroughly cleaning her house every day. She startled me when she said she used those little lemon scented paper wipes for going over the floors! She worked like stink until about 8am when she'd treat herself to something to drink, I'm guessing here, and then she'd walk into town for a coffee. I'd often stumble down the street at 10am and find her sitting have coffee all dressed to the nines and making me feel ashamed. After a couple of years she gave up on living in my town, she said english people kept dirty houses (mine!) and she left, without saying goodbye, to live in Thailand, Ko Samui, I think. She was a South African. (Gobs note)! And although I send her a Christmas card every year I hear nothing back. Really I feel sorry for her. She was VERY strange. But I seem to only meet strange people. Perhaps I'm strange myself. End of.

I have always wondered if cleaning obsessions are learned or genetic.

What's the point of cleaning, it gets dirty again anyway

I have always noticed how some mothers try to keep the house spotless and antiseptic for their children's sake. Don't they know that the kids are out in the garden eating dirt while they are scouring the kitchen? Or are they in denial?

Eating a bit of dirt is good for your immune system.

I would like to think that "everybody" knows that, but Unilever, Proctor & Gamble, Henkel and some of the other companies keep hiding that detail.

Yes indeed HT is right. At present I'm taking a strong probiotic supplement which contains Homeostatic Soil Organisms (HSOs)...It's name is Primal Defense. www.gardenoflifeusa.com/ProductsforLife/SUPPLEMENTS/DigestiveHealth/PrimalDefense/tabid/638/Default.aspxHSOs have more chance of colonizing in the gut and enhancing one's digestive health, rather than taking the usual bio-acidophilus and bifidus which are swept through the intestines and excreted which is a waste of money. HSOs are cultivated from actual soil, dirt.

I am lucky, Mr Star finds a spot of light cleaning relaxing.
So I relax on here or with a book while he indulges himself.

I generally clean before having guests(depends on who it is),I also clean on rainy days when I can't work out of doors. But, there are some areas of the house I keep clean most all the time as in the kitchen and my bathroom (Bix don't laugh!).

I also clean before having guests. That reminds me... it is time to invite some friends again. The house needs a clean.

You are supposed to keep your house clean and my bed ready at all times!

Post by happytraveller on Feb 12, 2009 12:26:51 GMT
Well... you would let me know your flight details first wouldn't you ? Then there's still enough time to clean. The bed is always ready

OK in that case, I would send you out with Charlie, as you would need some fresh air from the flight anyway. In the mean time I clean up. Deal ?

In fact, you do not have to clean your house when I visit!

I know, I will come to visit you all and bring Mr Star. He can clean your homes while we sip cocktails...
(hmm I hope he doesn't see this I do'nt think he would be up for it if I told him in advacne what I had planned. But I am sure he would get into the plan soon enough)

Happy - I know that Swiss people have the reputation for keeping their houses spotlessly clean! They are always cleaning their windows and polishing the sinks after every use. Ha ha...

My only consolation about my arriving Swiss friends is that they do not keep their homes spotlessly clean! And the 3rd person who is an impoverished Italian countess (doesn't that sound intriguing?) will be staying in a nearby hotel because I don't have room for her (well, actually I have the room but not enough hot water!).
