Which performers did you like but who have 'gone away', either because the public lost interest in them or because they decided to live a different life?
Just because one of the songs was on the radio a few minutes ago, I will start with:
Cyndi Lauper

Cyndi is still popular, K! Just not in the charts... but I guess that's the whole point of your thread..(re-reading it). I like stuff like "Talk talk", who have totally disappeared.

Yes, I mean "not on the charts" -- just about everybody who was ever popular has a diehard following that keeps them working.
Another example:
Huey Lewis
(In France, these sorts of former stars are joked about as being invited to perform at supermarket openings.)

While we're living in the past, let me add... (seen 'em twice - incredible!)

Mica Paris was big in the late 80's (at least in the UK where I was). She may still be doing stuff, but I haven't heard much from her since. Compared to, say, Mary J Blige. In the early 90's we were saying she's good; she should really go somewhere. And whaddya know she has!

Lauryn Hill, too... Haven't heard from her in a while.

Some Canadians who had gone beyond their borders might still be big in Canada, but we don't see them anymore over here, such as...
Bryan Adams Nelly Furtado

The new Bryan Adams (never was crazy about him - and started do dislike him soon thereafter) is Nickelback whom I despise. The new Nelly Furtado is Feist, who I can live with (careful).

People like Rod Stewart seem to have retired, if they are not already in a nursing home.

People like Rod Stewart seem to have retired, if they are not already in a nursing home. I think he's still collecting young brides. I miss David Byrne. The last thing I read about him though, non music related had to do with a mission he was(is ) on regarding cycling. I think he may be working on a book about bike paths around the world. He is a rabid cyclist.

One who occurred to me last night: Anne Murray. Can't really remember the time period, late 70s - early 80s probably, but she was there, then she was gone.

A violinist friend of mine played in the local orchestra that supported her last time she played here (he did the same for Rod Stewart too).

Yes, CB are still around although no longer on the cutting edge. Playing mostly small theatres these days (although they play Carnegie Hall in October). Last album I bought was "Open" (2001). I still play "Miles from our Home" quite a bit - with the title track being a big favorite.

Some people have perhaps not dropped from the spotlight but they have been erased from my memory. The other day I saw a report about Barry Manilow who apparently lives on as one of those Las Vegas show zombies, but he said he didn't mind singing 'Copacabana' a million times.

LOL K! It's true,if you go to Vegas, and I haven't been for a really long time, but,I was amazed at the performers, some of whom I thought dead, that were performing. And they draw huge crowds. Wayne Newton, and oh my god,you can't even get near,Tom Jones!

And even Englebert Humperdinck manages to make a living there. how could I have forgotten? His name always cracked me up but ,then I remembered it .because there was a composer with the exact same name who wrote the music for Hansel and Gretel which I had to learn on the piano when I was young.

During the height of the pop star Englebert Humperdinck's fame, sometime in the 60s, the heirs of the composer sued to make him stop using the name. Guess they lost the suit.

What was wrong with his real name, Arnold George Dorsey? Didn't it hide the fact that he was born in Madras, India well enough?

Many of those who had retired on their royalties are trying it once more. I think it has to do with change in law/reality re royalties.
Last week, I heard Bonnie Tyler is preparing a come back.
