Oooooooooo ~ I adore this sort of thing! It is so touching to see how people display not only straight information -- the numbers -- but their fondness and expectations for a place.
My favorite is definitely the last one. You can easily see the number, but that wonderful pot holding the cheerful geraniums perfectly directs the attention to the natural-looking beauty behind it.

I believe it's a discarded (recycled, re-purposed?) chimenea.

That's what it looks like. Either that, or a planter made to look like one -- it's rather small.

This is an excellent subject, but it reminds me of the worst person I ever knew to give directions. He would say things like "there's a corner with a butcher shop with a red sign on the right; that's not where you turn, keep going!" He would give so much useless information that you would only remember things like the butcher shop, which were extraneous.
Addresses in the Middle East and Asia often do not have street numbers so you wind up with addresses like "behind the Shell station" or "two doors to the left of the video store."

Imec:
What a wonderful posting. It really shows what people can do with a little imagination and some whimsy. Thanks

Imec - I enjoyed that! You rarely find such graphic house signs in the UK.

Coming very late to this thread... This brings up many memories, Imec. We bike all around a chain of lakes when in Wisconsin and are always amused at the names people attach to their little piece of paradise. Unfortunately, if I carried a camera while biking, Mr. Kimby would probably take it away from me for holding up the ride too much.

I love these vignettes.
Captiva Island, Florida, just north of Sanibel, has numerous cutesy entry signs. But again, Mr. Kimby would be too impatient if I stopped to take photos on our bike ride. Someday....

I will have to think about this subject the next time I drive through isolated farmland. The indicators can indeed be interesting.
