Here is what's going on in my patio during this hot, dry season ~ Crassula (is that right, Mick?) with baby Aloe ferox Desert Rose with double flowers & the most wonderful gray leaves, even though they show more green in this picture. The flowers have a sweet, subtle scent ~ Note big Aloe ferox on the right ~ Completely out of control Agave attenuata. This started as a baby years ago & was planted in its present spot when I moved here six years ago. It's so heavy I had trouble lifting it to prop it up and you can see all the eager babies beneath it ~

Equal parts admiration and envy going on here. What a beautiful little garden! And you, unlike me at the Garden Show in Seattle, brought out your camera and took pics.

That's a great collection!
Crassula Morgans Beauty but that Adenium is stunning!
I have 2 Adeniums but can't get them to flower. Need your sunshine!

Thanks so much, Fumobici! As far as the camera, I only had to step inside to get it & was obviously eager to show off the Adenium.
Mick, here's something worth trying: I have several Adeniums I've had for years. They mostly shift for themselves, but have flowered pretty reliably. I was whining to my plant guy friend a while back about one of them which wasn't even budding even though the others had started flowering. I told him I'd been putting banana peels on the top of its soil & he said to put eggshells. I'd never heard that before, but went ahead & did it. Sure enough, it flowered beautifully. He & his son sell plants near my market & got several of the fancy Adeniums at one time. I can't take credit for mine, as it was already in flower & bud when I got it. Nevertheless, it was bothering me that its pot was inadequate, plus it was in there crooked so I just had to repot it, come what may. It lost a few leaves, but overall showed gratitude for the new quarters by making new buds & leaves.

I loved your patio when I was there, Bixa. I'm sure that the others will agree after the meet-up.

I have two pots of that Bulbine, but only one is just starting to flower. Bulbine is a very reliable flowerer, though.
Does "pseudohemisphaerica" mean fake half circle &, if so, why?
What does the mysterious link between the two pictures refer to?
Love that Crassula! Well, I pretty much love all Crassulas.

The Bulbine is not a pretty plant so I hide it away somewhat but it’s a reliable flowerer and lovely colours. Pseudo means it is like Crassula hemisphaerica (qv). I also have Aloe parvula and pseudoparvula for example.

No idea about the link. It turned up when I uploaded pictures! It does that from time to time.

Apparently this Adenium obesum, which I've had for years, woke up one day & said "I think I'm just gonna bloom like crazy", which it did ~ And in other patio news ~ It has been ungodly hot here, just baking. I guess that is why the flowers on this Adenium have so dramatically changed color. This is the very same plant shown in the second & third photos in reply #1382 above ~

This has been an exceptionally good year for Adeniums and the Euphorbia milii. Here is the second flush of bloom on this plant. I may have mentioned elsewhere that it wasn't even making buds a few months ago when all the other Adeniums I have were putting out bloom. My plant friend told me to put eggshells on the soil. I did and it performed furiously. It doesn't look like this second show will be as impressive, but I'm not complaining ~ This is a sadly neglected plant -- leggy and needing pruning, plus somewhat malnourished as you can see from the leaves. Nevertheless, the heat we've had followed by two days of nice rain has made for some really nice flowers ~

Two more pictures. One is because I need help and advice & the other just because it is pretty. This Aloe ferox didn't do much for a while, then one day I noticed it needed water frequently, so repotted it. That's when it really took off and got big and really nice looking. Then, as happens here every year in the Spring time, the uv index gets very high and plants get burnt. The A.ferox was definitely not happy in the afternoon sun, so I moved it to the opposite side of the patio, where it's getting morning sun. I don't think it looks any better, in fact, perhaps worse. Advice, please ~ This is one of those giant Euphorbia milii. I've had it for quite a while and it's a very reliable bloomer ~

Bixa, on your Aloe ferox I'm not sure what to suggest beyond keep moving it round until it gets settled. Obviously not a problem I have here.
From what I can see it's happiest between 27-31c and sunny position.

Thanks, Mick. The UV index at this time of year here is dangerous for humans & obvious for succulent leaves as well. I wish I had more dappled sunlight in the patio.
Re: the cactus fruits ~ there are various native cacti here which give similar fruit, but round & red. They're really teeny, but I've been told that many people eat them.

This is the same plant I posted in the first picture in #1400 on April 5. Here it is today. Keep in mind that one or two flowers have already fallen off. Much better display than anticipated!
