Took this photo of what I thought was a new leaf emerging from my little Mexican tree.....sorrow followed as I am pretty sure the little tree is dead. What was a leaf turned out to be a dragonfly.

Wonderful dragonfly capture, Tod.
Did you scrape at the bark a little bit with your thumbnail to see if it is green underneath?

Beautiful dragonfly. I am always fascinated by transparent wings, which I presume are a protective feature.

Did you scrape at the bark a little bit with your thumbnail to see if it is green underneath? Yes Bixa, Mr.Tod scrapped a small patch near the base and it was green. He thinks the tree is still alive. We gave it a boost of fertilizer and good watering about 2 months ago. What I'm dreading most is if it is alive but weak, it might not survive the coming winter. I know they hate cold weather.

Pretty!
Is that a butterfly or a moth? Also, what's that it's perched on, which is lovely.

I guess a moth.
It’s perched on variegated thyme.

Pure luck. I was just checking out the garden in the evening as I usually do when it caught my eye. It was flitting about and I was lucky to get it when it stayed still for long enough.

Thanks to all of you!
Lugg, if that's what it is, then I guess we do have them in Mexico. I have seen this kind of creature before.
A mildly amusing story about getting the picture:
I whined elsewhere about recently getting overly strong reading glasses. That night I got up from the computer to get something in the kitchen. I saw the pretty bug & grabbed the camera. But yikes ~ I couldn't get it to focus. I peered through the viewfinder, checked the settings, etc., but it just would not come into focus. Then it hit me. The camera was not broken. I was looking through the viewfinder with the new excesso glasses and couldn't see diddly-squat. I did put my regular glasses on to finally get a picture.

You are right Lugg. It is a Damselfly and not a Dragonfly. Both are in the same insect order Odonata, but the wings of Dragonflies lie flat while resting and the wings of Damselflies are held folded over the body. From Bixa's photo showing the triangular markings on the wings, this Damselfly is from the suborder Zygoptera. Another major difference between Damsel & Dragon flies is that Damselflies are smaller, feeble in flight and have frequent resting of their wings. But, they are still predators that have aquatic nymphs known as Naiads.
Well snapped Bixa - I love these "Helicopter-like" creatures.

Resting near my doorstep was this Silk moth - namely Imbrasia Epimethea. First photo is as I found it and second photo it had opened its wings - see a bright orange ring on each.
