We have had a mini heat wave, temps here up to 29C, but a thunderstorm this evening should mark the end of it

Some wild and woolly cirrus to start our little heatwave off.

I am reminded of a movie that I saw when I was very young called The Crawling Eye. The horrible creature attacked people barricaded in the cable car station lost in the clouds at the top of the mountain. Back in the late 1950's, these creatures were always spawned by radioactive leaks.

Good thing I didn't see your post yesterday - we were on a cable car that stopped and just hung there a while, just as we were over a particularly deep ravine. And at the top, the clouds were still hovering around: My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

Oh gawwwwwd, Patrick! Did anyone in your party freak out?
Both of the new pictures are impressive, but I'm totally bowled over by the second one -- fabulous subject matter, color and composition.

Oh gawwwwwd, Patrick! Did anyone in your party freak out? Only me, and that was just a matter of closing my eyes and deep breathing. It was probably only a few minutes while someone had a problem loading or unloading, but of course it felt like an age. Thanks for the kind words. The scenery on that walk is very dramatic, especially with my sister-in-law giving it scale, but the reality is that the path is beautifully looked after and almost to the standard of a city park, even though it's at 2000m at the top.

Yesterday the magnificent Table Mountain had a very lumpy table cloth - Oh, but what a sight! (My sister sent it to me as her husband was about to go surfing - at 77yrs old), The earthquake had just struck off the coast and he wondered if the waves would grow larger. They did a little bit. Antonio de Saldanha was probably the first man to sail into Table Bay, but Sir Francis Drake, pursued by the Spanish fleet, his ship laden with booty, escaped the Pacific by heading west and circumnavigating the world. He encountered the Cape Peninsula in fair weather and later affirmed it 'The fairest Cape and the most stately thing we saw in the whole circumference of the globe.' He arrived in England in 1580, after three years at sea.

Those clouds look so threatening Kerouac especially as you have had fun with the colour! Mick I was wondering what kind of cloud mass yours photo is showing us? I bet Mossie knows. My guess is Alto Strato ?. Not the usual "Table cloth"cloud today but interesting clouds making Table Mountain look wonderful.
