They're pretending to ignore each other, just like in a singles bar.

That is a gorgeous puffin! Do you know that when not in mating season, they lose the colour on their beaks? It's like a little veneer plate that drops off, and it's just black underneath.

Yeah, isn't it crazy? Glad I caught them at the right time.

I've seen Puffins in the Scottish isles - Lunga specifically - and am interested to find out where you took your photo NYCGirl?

I've always loved green frogs for some reason. I used to catch them as they sat in the inner spiral of iris leaves.

That vulture is surprisingly pretty. And that crane is spectacular.

Echoing everyone elses comments on these exotic animals, Kerouac, but I particularly love the reclining rhino, the 2nd picture in #581. There is a hefty grace and even tenderness to that pose.

I like that little bird. I'd noticed him in your zoo thread. What kind is he? Do you know?
(Have been wondering why you're not posting your birds in the bird thread.)

While I was out in the woods I came face to face with this deer. It froze just for a second, before crashing off through the trees, snorting at me the whole time.

So yesterday I saw a little squirrel trying to get to the bird feeder that I leave out there for the birds. It climbed the tree outside but couldn't quite reach it, so it picked up the fallen seeds on the ground. I felt a bit sorry for it, so I think I'll get some squirrel food and another kind of holder for it and it's friends. After about half an hour of foraging around, it ran back into the woods at the back of the house. I managed to get a couple photos of it. Taken through the patio door windows though. Here it is:

Aaaah..... He is really begging
But if you encourage him he will quickly come indoors to get food and you will have a nice pet, or a real pest, on your hands.

He looked like he was posing for the camera, mossie. Real cute Would he really come indoors? Not sure I'd want that though, could put holes in the walls!

I like that little bird. I'd noticed him in your zoo thread. What kind is he? Do you know? If I may answer...my bird book has a very similar photo and the bird is described as: A Grey-Headed (Greyhooded) KINGFISHER. The only difference is the beak. My bird has a red beak. This may mean Kerouac's bird is a juvenile.
