in the spreewald, a beautiful area a few hours south from here, that consists of a maze of rivers, so in summer people travel by boat there - and in winter you can go ice skating...

Oooo ~~ that made for some pretty pictures, but what misery for getting around in. My feet feel wet and cold just looking at the woman in the last photo. Also, I am cursing you for the urge that just came over me to whistle "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas".

I've seen the shoes many of those Parisian city girls choose to wear. I might have a hard time not pointing and laughing on the street when the snow starts collecting. When fashion comes hard up against cold, wet reality, fashion generally loses.

Those sidewalks look so slippery........ Is that last photo looking towards Fouquet's? I love the cars all covered in snow and think the first photo looks like it should be made into a Xmas card!

Eerily beautiful, imec. I love how the shadows create a blue cast on the snow.
I think I need to visit some snow soon. Its 79 degrees (26 celsius) as I type this.

There's an amazing amount of colour in snow - will try to get some shots in the morning when it sometimes looks pink or pale orange.

Looks just lovely, imec. But like bjd said - I don't want to be there! We have no snow at all right now. I saw what the weather channel was forecasting for your region and I'm like 'no way!?'.
btw imec, I have a friend who is moving to MB soon from the UK. I'll PM you the details.

Going to the cinema last night, I felt impelled to take this picture of the Quai de la Seine along the Bassin de la Villette in the 19th, because it rarely looks this way. However, as I was snapping the picture, I saw that the screen showed the night sky as being golden-brownish, and I was thinking "WTF?" But then I looked at the real sky with my real eyes and saw that it is indeed the colour of the night sky in that part of Paris, obviously due to street lighting.

Going to the office this morning, this was the scene on the Champs Elysées coming out of metro station Franklin D. Roosevelt. At the last intersection before my office, I wondered why the hell I had to be out before sunrise in this totally deserted city.

Absolutely beautiful images...isn't the contrast between the sky and the white snow wonderful? ;D Castle Gardens yesterday...the Grand Union Canal was frozen.... the student accommodation looks out onto the canal and gardens...lucky things... the trees in the gardens were breathtakingly beautiful. the sky was very milky tho...and there was a bit of mist about...

Kerouac, those spooky night and early morning colors are so pretty, although I imagine what you were saying under your breath as you stood there in the slush to snap them wasn't so pretty.
I have to say, though, that the pictures that really get me are the ones with the colors almost leached out by the weather conditions. The Les Halles photo at number 34 is exquisite, especially with the black tracery of the trees.
And Cheery, that's a wonderful array, but the last one is too beautiful for description. Really, it's one of the loveliest pictures I've ever seen.

My little rental Smart was probably cross with me for stopping for no reason to take a few pictures. Was inspired by the weather to revisit this thread, and kerouac's quote reminded me of a favorite Robert Frost poem, one of the few that I can recite by memory in its entirety: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there's some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.
