I rarely manage to take a good winter picture in Paris unless it is freezing and/or snowing. Otherwise, it just looks blah.

It was -7 here yesterday morning and we have had clear days and frosty mornings for some time as our weather is courtesy of a deep high pressure area across the continent dragging in their cold air. Sooner Brexit is completed the better. This ice stalagmite has formed underneath my outside tap, I top up a couple of saucers for the birds after clearing out the ice.

Yes, lovely equine boy.
Amboseli, alas Antwerp (a beautiful and lively city) is one of the many places I've just been through. It is unusual for you to have so much snow when it is still late autumn. We've had our first "real" snow today.
I have Belgian friends who had been living in southwestern France, but it had become too expensive, and they moved back to Ghent. They were often in Amsterdam, so I suppose the grey northern weather won't bother them too much. I've never been to Ghent, but it seems like an interesting place with a lot of young students, and where one doesn't need a (personal) car, which should be a saving, though I don't know whether there is a carshare scheme.

You don't need a car in either city in Belgium, but most people do. There is public transport and our cities are small and walkable. Shared cars are being promoted but I don't know if this is successful. Ghent is lovely, and lively 'cause it's a university city.

When they were in southwestern France, it was in a village near Albi, and one pretty much needed a car to shop, as it was too hilly for most people to cycle or walk very far with groceries.

Well-named place! And I didn't know there were such mountains in that part of Germany. They must get quite a few Dutch tourists...
