One of the entrances to my local market. The market is sandwiched between two parallel streets.

Bix...What perfect composition...the all embracing curve of that magnificent tree is continued on in line with the boy's leg and back. The curve is matched by the curves of the art work on the wall. The chap in blue top mirrors it with his back. There is an upper right big triangle of wild colour from the woman with the purple flowers, to the tree, with the bright walls. This is balanced with the lower left triangle of greys of the concrete and clothes of the men and boy. And you have caught the rather languid action of the scene.I see maybe 6 mini pics here...2 men chatting, 2 women chatting, boy playing, tree people watching etc. Congratulations.

Questa, I was pleased with the composition and felt the boy was crucial to the picture, but never consciously caught the line of the tree being continued with the boy's leg & back. Interesting lesson in seeing, yet not seeing ~~ thank you!

Wow! The three of you have covered everyday life in such far flung places and with such skill and charm. What a completely delightful group of pictures.

That is a very confusing picture. If one of them is Santa Claus, who is the imposter?

Well, neither are the REAL Santa, of course. They are located at the Christmas tree lot, a block down from the inflated turkey.

Oh, are they for sale then? That would explain it.

No, they aren't for sale, but signal that the school's Christmas tree lot is open for business. During the closing hours the Santas are left deflated.

Oh, it's really well stocked. Are the prices fairly competitive with larger stores, Cheery, or more like convenience store prices?

Oh, it's really well stocked. Are the prices fairly competitive with larger stores, Cheery, or more like convenience store prices? The store has been there for years and years. Some things are more expensive, but most are quite competitive. Mr Scattergood (the owner)is related to Rob...and Rob's sister and her OH run another shop somewhere in Leicester. On a Sunday (as it was when I took the pics) they block off most of the store and just sell basics...but will fetch out other things if you ask them to. When the weather is really bad and I don't want the journey to the supermarket I can get most things I need at Scats (as we call it locally). My youngest used to earn pocket money as a paper delivery boy with them when he was a schoolboy, the owners know our names and always asked after my Dad...it's a nice place to shop even tho they don't have the variety of produce that a hypermarket would stock. The children used to spend their pocket money there...and they stock a few things that I can't get anywhere else.

Super interesting look at your area. And I don't know why, but somehow "Scattergood" seems a perfect, even novelistic name for a local general store owner.

A very cool picture!!!
I miss being able to burn stuff. One of the drawbacks to living in the city, I suppose.

Well, you could burn things in the city just for fun, htmb, but they have a name for that.

Bows and arrows at the ready.... My thoughts, exactly, htmb. I hate, hate, hate these inflatables when we are in Florida near the holidays. The twinkly lights wrapped around the palm trees are nice, though.

A lovely photo and subject matter Lizzyfaire! Htmb - like yourself we too are not allowed to burn any garden refuse, but immediately across the road they can - because it's a farm. I can without hesitation light the BBQ out in the open or in the BBQ pit with a chimney. If I thought about it I could easily use twigs from the garden instead of charcoal....but then what would the meat taste like??
