I thought it was interesting in the tech shop today where I was changing my telephone and television services -- and of course discussing the latest innovations. The young tech nerd said he had just changed his computer which came with Windows 8 and he said he was going to downgrade to Windows 7 because he couldn't stand it.
And since he was showing me how to use my first smartphone with the tactile screen, it probably was not just the copycat tablet and smartphone imagery that Windows 8 uses that didn't satisfy him. However, since I was not there for computer matters today, I didn't interrogate him about what he felt was wrong with it.

I'd be lost. But I have back-up in the form of a son who knows, and buys the very latest phones etc. He just loves technology and his always three steps ahead. Where the cheapest deals are and the latest stuff on the market. Dum dum mom and dad just wait for the cast-offs ;D

That's interesting. From what little I know, Windows 8 uses an enormous amount of space on the computer, although Windows 7 isn't far behind. But there is supposed to be a great deal one has to learn in order to use 8 effectively. The only thing yay or nay that I've read is that one of the new tablets is wonderful to use once a person masters 8, apparently a pretty steep curve. Sorry, don't remember the source, but it was probably something like this: www.trustedreviews.com/best-windows-8-laptops-tablets-convertibles-and-pcs_round-upDoes anyone here use gestures? That's terra incognita to me & apparently a big part of 8.

Is anyone else having problems with the forum loading very slowly or getting error messages?

I am, but it's been happening to me off and on for the last couple of weeks.

It has been reported to Support & is being worked on. Supposedly the loading will improve gradually throughout the rest of today.

And my reply above is not showing up on the main page. Proboards switched over to V5 today -- their all new format. (Any Port has opted not to make the switch for the time being.) I think a larger than average number of problems are being handled by Support today because of the big switch.

What will the eventual switch mean for us?

I don't know yet. The little bit of it I've seen on other forums has me feeling very balky about it, but that's probably because I'm so used to this system. It should look pretty much the same, but I'm not sure if we'll feel the difference in everyday usage or not.

I had problems last night, thank you to whoever moved my multiple posts on the 8 song thread. Everything seems back to normal this am though.

Is anyone else having problems with the forum loading very slowly or getting error messages? It was ungodly slow yesterday but seems to have remedied itself. And, the error messages were confounding me so I abandon posting further hoping it was an internal problem and not my computer. Thanks Bixa, you're a whiz!

Thank you, but I didn't do anything except complain so that the problem could be reported to Proboards.
If it was slow for you yesterday & you were getting error messages, it means it wasn't totally fixed. I got some of those messages yesterday, too, but it was so much better than the day before that I figured they were doing something to fix things.

Write your text and after you click on the A button, you will see the default size (( size=2 )) and then you can change it to 1.

The young tech nerd said he had just changed his computer which came with Windows 8 and he said he was going to downgrade to Windows 7 because he couldn't stand it. Now, onward & upward (or at least laterally) with Windows Blue: www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2418624,00.asp

is this 'report a bug', too?
for the last couple of days, rather often when I tried to open a branch/thread here at apias in a new tab, I was redirected to a facebook-page instead (can't say which one, since I don't subscribe to fb, so it always just takes me to login). so far checks claim my laptop is not infected by malware, and it doesn't happen with any other sites I visit either. anyone experienced the same lately?

Yes, please report bugs here, too.
That's a new one on me, Nautiker. It will get reported to Proboards, which is pretty quick about fixing things.

hi bixa, thanks for the feedback. it's odd, I'm experiencing this on two computers, yet not at all on a third one. all three with firefox & windows 7 - so maybe it's on my side after all? will try another computer tomorrow...

Here you go. This is from a proboards administrator:
Do you know what browser they're using? And have they tried the private browsing option in that browser?

I am being redirected to a Facebook page as well, using IE, and it is extremely annoying! It has already happened at least 4 or 5 times. It didn't just happen on this site but also on another one that suggests 'signing in with Facebook.'
