If you get totally desperate, head east on I - 10 and go south for a bit when you get to I -75. Bring your laptop, camera, and cables. We can play with your tech stuff, and send the Wizard pitiful pleas for help.

Something odd happening, but on only one of my two replacement machines just bought. When I get into Anyport it instantly reverts to an error message telling me it can't find a .css page. But if I go back one step in the browser pull-down history, it goes to the page I want, with my choice of skin showing correctly, so it has found that bit of the CSS. It's happening every time I open a new forum or thread on the site. I've cleared the caches, so I don't think that can be it, or that laboriously going through every forum to do the back-click and set up a new cache record would do anything to help. It doesn't happen with the "Participated" pop-up. It dosn't happen on my other new machine, which is fine. Any ideas? My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

I have no ideas, but I have encountered some anomolous events myself. I'm just hoping that they are temporary glitches.

It's weird. I had something similar on another site. Same version of Firefox, same operating system - the only difference is the computers themselves. My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

even weirder: when I look at the source code, it has the supposedly broken link to the CSS file, and that works. So why does it work on one machine and not the other? Some hidden preferences somewhere, I suppose. My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

The icons on the AnyPort home page are not loading. I'm wondering if it's me or a Proboards issue.

No problem here, but I spent most of yesterday wrestling with the Angry Bear.

I was having the problem on my ipad. Anyport seems to be behaving okay on my desktop, so I'll have to try a few more tricks to get my ipad back in shape. Thanks

Here is a sort of tip, which many of you may have figured out the same way I did -- by accident. In our new, improved forum format, much of what made proboards the logical choice for a picture-posting forum has been snatched away from us. However, we've been thrown one crumb in the form of saved drafts. Logic would dictate that such a desirable thing would be automatic, but no -- you have to go to Edit Profile > Settings in order to enable it. Once enabled, the offer to give you back the post you were working on that suddenly disappeared will pop up. However, it will quickly flash past faster than the eye can see & zip up to the top of the page. So, if you Preview (a function that now also is missing most of what made it functional) or do any other innocent thing that makes your not-yet-posted post disappear, first scroll to the top of the page to see if it's there. If not, re-navigate back to the thread, then down to Reply, and the draft should be available -- either right where you can see it or up at the top of the page. If anyone knows a simpler, less nerve-wracking way to access drafts, please please post it here. And, just to keep your frustration level down, try to remember to copy your post before Previewing it.

Every now and then, I can find the missing draft just by hitting the 'back' button. Never when it is really important, of course.

Or compose the whole thing in Word, complete with photo links, and copy & paste into Any Port...

Amazing scientific breakthrough by >>me<<!
I've finally found an effective, easy way to clean digital device screens. I have a tablet & a touch screen laptop & both of them sometimes look like the tray on a baby's high chair. Nothing I've found on the internet has been very useful so far. Then, in desperation, I grabbed a baby wipe, passed it over the screen, then quickly followed that with a swipe with a cheap paper napkin. Clean!
The brand of baby wipe I use is Chicolastic. Don't know if they're sold in other countries or not, but just look for a brand that is more like cloth than paper. I tried following up with the "soft dry cloth" always recommended, but the paper napkin is more absorbent & quickly picks up the moisture from the baby wipe along with the greasy prints on the screen.

It's probably even better if you have a baby, because you can still wipe the baby after cleaning your screen.

Suffice to say that anyone who's ever lived in a camper or boat or anywhere with limited water knows about baby wipes & tends to keep them on hand.
I got the idea to use them from an article about cleaning digital screens which said there was such a thing as screen wipes. Once used on the screen, the still quite damp baby wipe can be used on the keyboard, the coffee cup rings next to the laptop, the base of your desk lamp, etc.

Anyone else seeing glitches in the "Participated" feature? It's telling me that Mich is the most recent poster in Kerouac's food fest thread, but when I go there it shows me as the most recent poster "a few seconds ago", although my post was hours ago.

For the past couple of weeks I've been having a horrible time dealing with pop ups and redirects that take me to the App Store on my ipad and bring up stupid "free games" that I certainly do not wish to install or play. Games with bright pink, sparkly designs in their logos. I use Safari on the iPad and the only time this annoyance happen is when I'm on an AnyPort page. I had tried several solutions, but nothing seemed to last for very long. I hadn't mentioned it here before because there hasn't been much talk of iPads by AnyPort members except for me and Mossie, but if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem let me know and I will explain what I did to fix the problem (I think it's fixed, anyway. So far, so good )

That's great. And you're great to offer support to others.
In that vein, I think I figured out my own solution to the question in #589. That would be to drag the pics into the folder, although it's not obviously presented nor elegant. So, any insight into OneDrive would be appreciated.

I should mention that using IE, I remember there were a couple of days over the last two months where I was unexpectedly dragged away to some other place when I was trying to be at Anyport. I just clicked the back button when it happened. Also, every now and then I have a McAfee warning at the top of the page saying that they have blocked something suspicious and do I want to see it anyway? Uh, no thank you. I am thinking it might be the same thing but with an automatic blockage that has come to my rescue.

I would be sent to the apple App Store every time I tried to close out and get back to AnyPort. Deleting my "cookies" helped, but only temporarily. Just a few clicks.
Basically, I selectively cleaned out what I suppose would be the equivalent of a PC cache file. Anything that looked related to AnyPort, proboards, and those popup adds were deleted and that's what ultimately fixed it.

My tablet seems to have died. No reaction when I try to turn it on, even though I know that it is fully charged. I am pretty sure that I am probably better off buying a new one rather than spending money to get this one fixed (guarantee has expired of course). I think I only spent something like 130€ for this and I can't imagine a repair costing less than 50-60€. Any thoughts on the matter?

Try booting it when it's plugged in and possible a "soft reboot." It will depend on what kind of tablet you have, but for mine: I have two different buttons, and I hold them both down until it reboots. I think I'm supposed to hold one first and then the other, but I just push and hold buttons it until I get some sort of electronic response.

That happened to me & I googled for my exact tablet. The answer was to hold the on button down for 30 seconds, which worked.
