Not in this particular program, which was the one I had to use. I am happy anyway, since I found the pictures I knew I had somewhere.

For some reason, today in my Firefox I'm getting a nice little APIAS lighthouse icon at the top of my browser and in my bookmarks. Nice!

It's showing on my Opera browser, too. Hope everyone can see it.

Yes, it is even back on IE, from which it disappeared years ago.

My Google Chrome browser now shows a cute little lighthouse with beam, to represent APIAS on my Bookmark Bar. It's a very friendly icon, which is appropriate for this forum.

Actually, our tech wizard put the lighthouse in right from the start in 2009 but it was quickly swept aside by mysterious forces.

Not too quickly. It showed in other browsers, just not in IE. But when V5 rolled over our poor forum like a juggernaut, we lost all kinds of good stuff in order that we could have other stuff: hideous oversized avatars, ugly mysterious emoticons, fiddly complicated admin functions, etc. foisted upon us. Before, if we wanted a function or there was a problem, we could ask the host forum's Support and quickly receive an answer. That method of putting things together or fixing them was a cumulative learning process which was actually enjoyable.
Do I have anything nice to say about V5? Well, yes one single thing: the draft feature is a very good feature. I suppose the fact that the favicon shows in IE is another.

Hooray! That insanely annoying problem of accidentally logging out because of trying to click on "Participated" while the forum is still loading has been fixed! I've tested it on Chrome, on IE, and on Opera & it works on all of those browsers. To test it for yourself, go click the Logout button to see what happens.

It works in Safari, too. On a tablet, at least.

Other items to enhance your forum experience:
Automatic embedding of images -- simply paste the image url ending in .jpg, .png, or .gif. (not .bmp) directly in the message box. Image will appear when you post.
Quote highlighted text -- Quote a section of someone else's post by highlighting the chosen portion of text in that post and then clicking the "Quick Quote" button that appears next to your mouse. pee ess ~ when responding to a quote, write your response after the close-quote: [/quote] brackets. Otherwise your response seems to be part of the quoted text.

Can anyone please, please, please help me get around that damned Google "we've detected a problem with your cookies" glitch?
I've done everything they've suggested and looked at endless discussions by other victims, but can't get in. What really galls me is that, when I open the google home page, it shows me as logged in.
I haven't seen my gmail in ages and want to make a youtube slideshow but am locked out. I always say that Google screws up anything it gets its hands on, and this just takes the cake.

I thought that was a particularly lame and useless comment on your part, but then I remembered that you use IE. Went to the IE browser and was able to get into my google accounts, so thank you for your oblique help.

When I used to work (feels good to say that) and I had a stupid PC ( ) I used Internet databases and websites that only worked properly in either Chrome, IE, or Firefox. Two was pushing it, but they never worked on all three. Firefox had been my go to browser for years until something stupid conflicted with our work network, keeping me from being able to use excel files for mass email. Fortunately, that situation was resolved, after much kicking and screaming, by using Chrome. And though I hate IE, it was the only browser that worked with the overseas database I constantly used, so I was stuck with it. On any given work day, all three browsers were open simultaneously on my computer. I've never had a chance to give Opera a try. I'd ask you to tell me the advantages, Bixa, but I'm hoping to never touch another PC again. I'll probably eat those words one day.

Since getting a new Windows 10 PC, we have been having trouble downloading and opening .pdf files attached to emails. Long story short, I found out that Windows 10 has replaced IE with something called "edge", and the default .pdf reader/viewer is part of edge. I was trying to open & view .pdf files with Adobe Acrobat Reader, and was using Chrome. Now when I get an email with attached .pdf, I open edge, open our email account and download the file.
Voila!

I downloaded Adobe Acrobat and have Windows 10 and I think I altered the default programmes to have Adobe open all pdf's. In any case, using Firefox or Chrome with my mail has Adobe opening all them.

I did try to set Adobe as the default .pdf reader and it didn't work. I may need to go back to an earlier version of Acrobat. Since we get few .pdfs, the edge solution is good enough for now.

I seem to be pathetically 'out of it'. Earlier tonight I began a thread in music (re: Freddie Mercury), but was unable to either edit it to my satisfaction or to delete it. What am I doing wrong?

I think some sort of automatic safeguard kicked in way back when. It happens when somebody edits 'too much.' I've heard of this happening on the Trip Advisor site, too. I'm no expert on the tech part of this site, but I'll try to take a look in the back closet.

Hi Jazz! I have had a few problems with editing, but so far none with deleting. The editing problems I had were that the edit would not "take". Is that what happened to you? When it happened, I tried clearing my browser but that didn't help the problem, although it might work for you. If not, it's better, if not ideal, to navigate away from the pesky post & thread at that point, then return to it later & try again.
