Hi Bixa and Kerouac! Thanks, all is well in the end. Kerouac nailed it, of course. As is my wont I was editing too impatiently and 'too much'. Probably some safeguard kicked in.

Is anyone else using Opera and, if so, are you having trouble scrolling?

So I'm noticing that I haven't been receiving email notifications of new posts in bookmarked threads. Is it Any Port/ProBoards or is it me?

Something seems to be awry with the PM message posts.
I get some, others don't , etc

My kitten walked across the keyboard, hit some key and the font type turned miniscule..
This has happened to me before and I remember someone, either Mark or Fumobici knowing the technical remedy.
THANKS!!!

Casi, try holding down Ctrl and then dabbing the + sign a couple of times or more. Does the font get bigger now?

Yep, Mark introduced me to that trick sometime back & I have been grateful ever since.
Of course you can decrease the size by holding down Ctrl and hitting the minus (-) sign.
To get back to normal size, hold down Ctrl and click on the zero (0) key.

Is there a trick to make text on smart phones readable? No control key...

Post by bixaorellana on Apr 5, 2017 19:02:05 GMT
I thought those had touch screens and you could use two fingers to expand the image or text ~ no?

|
Post by Kimby on Apr 5, 2017 19:27:35 GMT
Well, yes. But then you have to drag the page back and forth to see what's beyond the edges of the screen. It would be ideal if the lines of text would wrap to the next line instead of extending off to forever...

Also, at the top of the page you have "View". Click on that, then "Zoom" and then click on zoom in or zoom out. There are a few ways if necessary.

THANKS!!! Control + mouse wheel Great idea. It may also serve as a diversion from his Palmetto bug obsession which has gotten out of control. Last week he brought me 6 in one day!!!!

Anyone else having trouble with the forum loading? Everything else on my computer opens instantly, but the anyport main page is taking way too long. I haven't even responded to some new picture threads because they're taking so long to open for me.

Post by bjd on Apr 25, 2017 17:53:14 GMT
No, it's normal loading for me.

Thanks, Bjd. Right after I wrote the post complaining about it, it started working normally so I started to comment on a post. Then the guys came to deliver my new mattress, so I had to stop. Still seems to be working okay, though.

Sometimes it is slow for me, sometimes not. But I'm used to that for this site and for others. Patience is a virtue.

It was slow just now when I came on. And it is only anyport that gives me trouble. Everything else opens in a flash, as did anyport until yesterday or the day befor. I checked Proboards status and they say all is well.

I think the delivery of the new mattress was what cured it.

Some of you might want to read this article: www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/may/15/windows-xp-patch-wannacry-ransomware-wecry-wanacrypt0r The downloads mentioned in the excerpt below are linked in the article. "... Microsoft’s policy is that some commonly used versions of Windows no longer receive security patches; those versions include Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, both of which have not been sold for over a decade; and Windows 8, which some users prefer to the supported Windows 8.1 because of differences between the two versions of the operating system. Once WeCry [the ransomware that hit the NHS] began spreading, however, Microsoft took the 'highly unusual' step of releasing free security updates for those out-of-support versions of Windows, which can be downloaded from its website." *braces self for the usual comments by self-congratulatory mac users*

Just a friendly reminder ~
It is absolutely NOT, repeat NOT necessary to Quote someone to whom you wish to reply if that person's post is immediately above yours.
In particular, it is downright undesirable to Quote the whole post if it contains multiple pictures.
Obviously there are times where quoting another post feels like the only way to go. But often, simply prefacing your response with the person's name is enough.
A quick refresher on quoting:
1) You can quote the pertinent part of a post by highlighting that part. A little box saying "Quick Quote" will float below what you've highlighted. Click on it and the quote will show up in the message box. A great advantage of this method is that you can do it multiple times, allowing you to go down a thread and accumulate quotes to which you wish to respond.
-- or --
2) You can just click Quote, then delete the parts you don't need from the quote.

I would try to assuage your guilt and make you feel better, Mick, but that is soooo not in my nature. Y'all try that highlighting method -- it's really pretty nifty. This is for you, Kerouac:

Both Kerouac and I have recent noticed anomalies in the forum's posting behavior. There are work-arounds, but these things are maddening.
For instance, when I go to put up a picture, the forum throws out any returns I'd put in. They have to be reinstated afterward. If I'm trying to use centering, the ending code [/div] gets pushed further and further down the page with lots of mystery returns. Be sure to preview your picture posts, as you'll generally find that there will be tons of extra space at the bottom you need to get rid of.
If anyone else is experiencing these problems or any other weird forum malfunctions, please post those here so that they can be reported to the host forum.

AVATARS -- please note:
Due to the recent Photobucket shake-up, anyport lost access to many of its images stored on that site. This included the forum's avatars. That is why some of you are seeing that ugly proboards face instead of your chosen image.
We have now re-instated the avatars. However, if you were using one of the forum's avatars, you will have to go to "Edit Profile" and reselect it.
