Cross-posted from What Photo host site do you use? -- Bjd, Photobucket recently changed &/or started enforcing rules about posting images hosted with it on 3rd-party sites such as forums. Rather viciously, it immediately removed access to those images. Many of the elements on anyport were hosted on Photobucket, which is why your avatar and your skin background are missing. You can give yourself an avatar, including the "this space intentionally left blank" one you had before, by going to Profile and clicking on "Edit Profile". Which skin are you using? I will try to find the background for it and replace it. In the meantime, you may want to temporarily change the skin you're using by going to Profile / Edit Profile / Settings. Note that skins are now known as "forum themes" .

Oh joy! I finally figured out how to let us have the good emoticons on Reply -- the ones that up until now have only been available in Quick Reply.
Here is what to do: When you are writing a post in Reply mode, click on the smiley-face button. At the bottom of the drop-down menu you will see the words, "View All Smileys". Click on that & you'll get a pop-up showing all the old, good smileys. Click on the one you want.

Important notice: A new feature has been added to anyport. In Reply (not in Quick Reply) you will see a box reading "Add image to post" in the upper right-hand corner. If you click on it, it will open a pop-up allowing you to upload an image to anyport directly from your computer. Caveats:This is not the magic solution we might have hoped. For one thing, it's slow. For another, your pictures will display fairly small -- 640 px wide. Once the pictures are posted, each one can be clicked on and a larger size viewed, but . There is a feature to resize the pictures, but be aware it's only resizing the click-on version -- the pictures that show up in your anyport post will still only be 640 wide. I have tested it both before and after registering with the site. Interestingly, when I registered the test pictures from before registering showed up in my account. Here is the site, if you wish to read terms of service, or to register: imgbb.com/cross-posted to the photo host thread

Does the "add image to post" button not show up in Reply on the mobile edition of the forum?
Kimby, you only use an iPhone for the internet?

Does the "add image to post" button not show up in Reply on the mobile edition of the forum? Kimby, you only use an iPhone for the internet? Pretty much, Bixa. "Reply to Topic" and "Create Post" are the ONLY buttons I get on iPhone. Sad.

"Reply to Topic" and "Create Post" are the ONLY buttons I get on iPhone. Sad. Hmmmm. I hardly know anything about using a proboards forum on mobile devices. I have an android tablet and a windows tablet, and both show anyport in its entirety, without my using any kind of special mobile app. I know that you can access p'bds forums such as anyport via Tapatalk. However, I don't know if it makes all the features available to you or not. itunes.apple.com/au/app/tapatalk-100-000-forums-worldwide/id307880732?mt=8

The 2x3" screen on my older iPhone limits what can fit on screen and still be legible.
(I do also have the option to bookmark a thread when I reply to it.)

That must severely curtail your enjoyment of things like reading articles online, family pictures, forums, etc. etc. etc. Have you thought about getting something like this?

I look at Anyport on my tiny Samsung Galaxy from time to time but only as an extremely limited option when I am away from home or a hotel with accceptable wifi. If the connection is good (I only have 3G, not even 4G on this phone), the photos will load -- except for Image Shack photos.

We have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 as well as 2 iPads I inherited from my Mom. But I like the always-available pocket size of my iPhone. And I HATE sitting at the desktop. Seems like such a waste of time - though I waste far more time "diddling my device" as Mr. Kimby calls it. With a limited data plan, I don't do videos or much photo posting, so the small screen is OK. And I love the convenience of having the Internet at my fingertips, like last night as we watched Monterey Pop, pulling up a list of performers and even the set lists. And during movies, going on IMDb to see what other roles an actor has played. I leave the desktop pretty much to Mr. Kimby these days.

Many thanks again Bixa, for leading this old dinosaur through the swamp. I shall try tonight to engage with Kerouac's mob. I have a group of pics that have been waiting to be shared.
PS the cherub in the test pic was my grand daughter at 3yrs.

Okay, this is admittedly the real thing of a first world problem, but ........ I recently bought a cordless mouse, my first. It's absolutely adorable & seems to work properly. When I first got it, it seemed that after it went to sleep because I was away from the computer, it would instantly wake up if I left-clicked on it. Now, once it's asleep, I have to turn it off with the switch, then turn it on again to wake it up. This is sort of irritating, plus I'm afraid the teensy little plastic switch will wear out with excessive use. Is this how it's supposed to work? Is there a way around this. Should I always turn it off when not in use? Linked above is the one I bought. Brookstone could have avoided all those bad reviews by simply inserting basic instructions in the package.

My cordless mouse (Microsoft) works whenever I touch it. It doesn't even have a switch. My tiny travel mouse (Targus) has a switch, which I do turn off when on the road and not yet in the hotel room, often because I have forgotten to bring an extra battery -- one of the worst things in the 1st world is not having the appropriate replacement battery on hand at all times.

That's very nice, butt but it doesn't answer the question about whether my cheapo China Brookstone model should come on or not. Actually, it comes on in the sense that it will wake up the screen, but the pointer is missing until I do that click on and off thing.
Incidentally, Brookstone in airports sells four triple-A batteries for a dollar. If you are bored while waiting for your flight, it's a way to use some time & to make a wise investment.

I am having great difficulty in sending a PM. I have tried 4 times and the same message pops up: "Could not connect to the search server. You may enter a comma separated list of user names instead". WTF? I don't even understand the message that's being suggested let alone what is usually a simple uncomplicated task.

Search server? I've no idea how you are trying to send a pm but are you trying to search for them using the search function up at the top of the page? Is it the search that isn't working then, or the message part not working?
There's various ways to find the person you want to message, from going to "Members" to just clicking on their name at the side of their post. Click on their name to bring up their profile, click top right on Send Message, fill out subject and message text and click Create Message. Does this not work for you? At what part does it break down?

I am attempting to send one PM to one member. Doing the same thing I have always done. Generally when it asks who the recipient is meant to receive, most times just one letter will give a list of names with members who have that one letter as the first letter of their user name. "K" will give a list Kerouac, Kimby etc. Now, when I post a letter I get a "wheelie" and then the above aforementioned message. Yes, I have logged off and resigned in, tried again and same result.

That sounds like a pain in the neck!
What you are doing is the same thing I do when I send a PM.
Ha! I just tried to send you a test pm & got the same message you got: Could not connect to the search server. You may enter a comma separated list of usernames instead.
That means we cannot create new PM threads. Will check with Support to see what I can find out.

Okay ~ we are not the only Proboards forum with that problem right now. People had already posted to Support about it & an administrator replied about an hour ago:
We're performing planned maintenance on search. It shouldn't be much longer.
So the problem should be fixed soon.
