Bixa, I've just sent you a test message. I think it went through.
Edit - you too Casi.

Now I tried it with your method casi and Bixa. I get the same fault. My way works though I think. Send chocolate and I'll tell you.

Work around - (Ok, I'll get the chocolate another time, I'm sure) - either find a post by the person or find them in the "Members" tab but don't try to use the Search function above to search on their username or you will get the same fault. Click on their username at the side of the post they have done or when you find them in the Members section. Their profile will open up. Go to the right side where it says "Send Message" and click on it. The message page will open up with their name already filled in. Write message and click "Create Message" at the end as normal and it will go through.
Cadbury's Milk Chocolate is best.

I got my "test" message from you Mark.
Your way is too complicated. I want back to the way it was before. (Do I seem petulant and pouty? You bet!!!)
I do appreciate both your and Bixa's assistance though.

Trouble is I can only do it at work at present and have very limited time. Mick, you don't have a computer or laptop in your home?

Oh, that's a shame! Having recently been subjected to very limited access to internet connection, I realize how much that limits enjoyment and participation in a forum. More power to you (and gratitude!) for continuing to contribute here. Having already salvaged tons of my pictures (with more to go) from photobucket so I could fix my threads, I do realize that it's a project requiring a home computer and blocks of time to dedicate to the project.

Yes its very slow. I’m at work 8-3 3 days a week so generally can only do it in between tasks and lunchtime.

A handy FYI ~ all of you can quickly share threads from anyport directly to the social media of your choice. All you have to do is click on the word Actions at the top right of any thread page (beneath the menu). You'll get a drop-down menu with five options. The middle one is Share Thread. Click on it for a menu of the various social media & choose the one you want. Proceed as directed by the site of your choice. ==============================================================================================================

Dear Anyporters ~ Can we have a few words about QUOTING, please?
There are two ways to Quote on Anyport.
1. You can click on the Quote button of the post you wish to quote. However, it may be that you don't need all of what is in the post, and possibly there is no reason to make everyone look at all of the post all over again. In that case, it is best to simply delete the unnecessary portions, especially if they involve pictures, or lists, or other information not germane to your reason for quoting.
2. You can highlight portions of a post that you wish to quote. When you do that, a little button that says "Quick Quote" will float up below the highlighted text. Click on that. You can do it multiple times in either the same post or multiple posts. When you get to the end of a thread where the Message Box is, there will be all your Quick Quotes waiting for you.
3. It might be that you only want to call a particular person's attention to your post. In that case, you need not Quote at all. Simply hover your mouse over the person's user name (the red-lettered name in the mini-profile). That will show you what to use to tag that person. For instance, I am usually addressed as Bixa on the forum, but if you want to get my attention, hovering over my mini-profile will show that you need to write @bixaorellana.

I wondered how you did this bixa, and admired your collecting quotes and putting them all in one reply. Now I know your secret.
Doesn’t work in iPhone, however. ☹️

Is this the right place to ask what password saving/protecting apps anyone on here uses?
We are considering using Last Pass, the free version. Anything we should be aware of?

Doesn’t work in iPhone, however. *cough cough* ~ from October 15, 2015: The Big Secret: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/7569/stuffRe: iPhone ~ I urge, nay beg Anyporters who have abandoned their big beautiful screens for the pinched, limiting world of phone-for-forum-use to reconsider. There is so much on here that typifies this forum which can get lost on the dinkoid screen -- long conversations, picture threads & their comments, etc. Also, and heaven knows this is not to single anyone out, but those who rely on Bookmarks to keep up with the forum miss so much that is new. Anyport covers an awful lot of ground and we can all miss new content, so coming on occasionally and having a good look around is rewarding. For those who have limited time to dip in and out, I highly recommend the Recent Threads feature. It opens to pages of threads in descending order from newest to oldest, so you can eyeball it for whatever might pull you in on a given visit. pee ess about password saving ~ I use something that is linked to my browser, so don't know anything about the many password savers that are available. Check your browser for whatever add-ons or extensions it offers in that department.

Because the GAFA tyrants have convinced the world that everything can be squeezed into tiny little devices and you no longer need the freedom that other systems provide. It makes it so much easier for them to control you. Just look at all the apps that demand that you allow access to all of your contacts and everything else...

I largely gave up my big-computer time when Mr. Kimby retired - which happened about the time I got an iPhone - and also about the time we gave up unlimited data for a metered plan.
So, yes, the photo threads are being neglected by one of their (former) biggest fans, and yes, thumb-typing is tedious enough to limit looong conversations.
We also gave up world travel about the same time, so no travelogs to post.
But I still love you guys and our cozy little port in a storm. Even on a phone.

Why do I always feel guilty when these posts come up? I dunno, Honeypie ~ you tell me. I largely gave up my big-computer time when Mr. Kimby retired - which happened about the time I got an iPhone I understand the metered internet problem, Kimby, but since you still have a real computer & are probably paying some kind of minimum, my suggestion is to use that computer in controlled doses to resume your former enjoyment of the forum. Also, phone addicts users are at risk of dowager's hump.

My current “office”at the lake cottage is the half-bath off the living room. We don’t have enough signal from the cell tower to use phone or computer without a booster. So Mr. Kimby is at his desk in the bedroom on the PC, and I’m sitting on the toilet lid, with my phone on a booster atop the toilet tank. I hope this will help preserve my posture....

Adding a #4 to this list: Please note that it is no longer possible to Quote posts containing an image. You can, however, quote pertinent parts of such a post by following #2 above. And a #5 for people whose phones don't allow them to Quick Quote: Simply copy & paste what you want to quote, using italics or quotation marks to make clear that you are quoting.

Note that many of the forum images on anyport are missing right now. This is because tinypic, where they are hosted is down & has been for several hours.
Not pertinent to this forum, but Photobucket, Tv Guide, and Amtrak are also all down, as were the Federal Student Aid and the State of California sites earlier. Not a good day for the internet! .

Keep up the foolishness in the Tech Thread, and you could wind up being the helper who has to replace all the damned icons if tinypic collapses permanently.

Sorry, but just wondering. About 40 minutes ago, I posted to an old thread of mine about Galipolli__'A Day in Gallipoli, Turkey' My intial post, referring to a powerful anti-war song, 'And the band played Waltzing Matilda', sung by John McDermott, no longer worked, so I posted it again. It doesn't seem to register at all on the home page. Just, many threads down on the Turkey page. Why not? The song is very special. My thread with recent and final post, anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/2139/day-gallipoli-turkey

Still wondering. (re my above post) I thought the most recent post in the Europe Board would be shown, not one that was posted 19 hours before (Lewes, United Kingdom, by lagatta.) Am I wrong? Are recent posts shown in terms of 'most significent country?' (which is what?) My post at 4:45 pm Nov. 12 is not even designated as a 'new post'.
I am only concerned because of Remembrance Day and the powerful song that honors the day. However, it is odd.
Don't worry, if it remains in sad obscurity, I'll just delete all the relevant posts.

Edited to add that I figured out why your thread didn't bounce to the top after getting a new post. Fixed now.
