Bixa, thanks. Sorry, I just ran amok because I wanted it to be heard close to Remembrance Day.

That's fine, Jazz! Just an FYI for everyone --
When Photobucket pulled its stunt of holding everyone to a high ransom, many of us lost the pictures in our threads. At that time, the pictures were replaced by large gray squares with a snotty Photobucket message on them. Consequently, all of the threads missing their photos were marked "Falling". This shows a little upside-down anchor looking thing next to the title of the thread and also prevents the thread from jumping to the top should someone post in it. (because, yes, people do post things like "what a shame the pictures don't show in this thread") Time marched on and for whatever reason some pictures returned in some threads, albeit now with a Photobucket watermark on them. I've going through bit by bit to check the threads marked Falling, but obviously haven't gotten to all of them.
So, that was why Jazz's thread didn't show as New, because it was "Falling". It would be a big help for the forum if any of you see that your Photobucket pictures are back in a thread but that it's still marked Falling to alert me or Kerouac so that we can undo that.

The Lazurus Effect. Am I going crazy? After all these months, years?...Photobucket is working again! All of my threads now have my photographs, once again! I haven't had time to check, but probably ALL of our threads have the photos retrieved. Yes, there is a distracting 'Proudly Hosted by Photobucket' emblazoned across the photos, but...they're back! So happy.
Warning, I will selfishly bring up a few threads that I loved and missed.
Just read Bixa's post above. mmm...not tech savvy, but I just hope that all of those beautiful photographs on APIAS have come back.

Well, I am pleased, but guardedly so. What Photobucket giveth, it just might taketh away again. I've spent hours converting some of my ruined-by-p'bucket threads to other hosts, but not all of them. I see many of my photobucket ones are now showing the pictures, but I'm not sorry to have spent the time making those threads I fixed more secure.

I seem to have mine back on those that I've checked. I can't remember though where my build of the house in Spain is to check that.

De nada, Mark. The operative word is "home", as Putting Down Roots is where all the house & garden stuff is.

The last few times I have attempted to use the Quote function it is not cooperating.
(Note: quoting a post that does not contain an image)

Hmmm. Anyone else having this problem? I just tested & it's working fine for me.
Casimira, try it on a different browser from your regular one.

The two Photobucket-related posts that were here have been moved to the Photobucket Problems thread in Image Bank Basics.

Lost again. I just noticed today that all of the photographs of the 'revived' Photo bucket threads are now blurred. What a waste.

A member here has reported getting "access denied" notices and is being told that his/her account was "banned by the site owner".
This person is a solid member and is not now nor has ever been banned.
PLEASE -- if this is happening to anyone else, can you find a way to let us know? Perhaps you can make contact via email or facebook with fellow members & if so, please report if you are locked out of the forum.
Thanks!

PS Though the cause of my temporary banning remains unknown, turning off my phone and turning it back on seems to have fixed the problem.

Really great, Mark! If someone needs showing how, that will totally do the trick. Quoting myself with amendments from the original announcement about this feature. I think it's a good idea to register with the site so you can access the pictures it hosts for you. In Reply you will see a box reading "Add image to post" in the upper right-hand corner. In Quick Reply it's at the bottom left under the message box, after Post Quick Reply and Spell Check. If you click on it, it will open a pop-up allowing you to upload an image to anyport directly from your computer. Caveats:This is not the magic solution we might have hoped. For one thing, it's slow. For another, your pictures will display fairly small -- 640 px wide. Once the pictures are posted, each one can be clicked on and a larger size viewed, but . There is a feature to resize the pictures, but be aware it's only resizing the click-on version -- the pictures that show up in your anyport post will still only be 640 wide. I have tested it both before and after registering with the site. Interestingly, when I registered the test pictures from before registering showed up in my account. Here is the site, if you wish to read terms of service, or to register: imgbb.com/

Chiming in to add that iPhone users can use this photo upload feature by switching to “desktop” mode (lower right of the screen) then after photos are uploaded and reply posted, switch back to “mobile version” by clicking link at bottom of screen.

Thank you Mark.
I will try and tackle it tomorrow when I have some pics to post.
Must find where I put the camera first during my last rearranging of things.
I think T. might have put it somewhere and I don't know where.
That was very kind of you to take the time to do and surely it will assist others.
I hope Kerouac is still running...

Oooo ~ made me look! Now I want it, too.
Incidentally, when you open the thread you should be automatically taken to the newest post after the last one you read. This does not happen for you?
Edited to add highlight, as this segment was moved from another thread.

I don't think it does on any thread. The Covid thread always goes back to the first post which tells us it will probably fizzle out...

Hmm. Something is not right, then. The forum is set up so that when you open a thread you are conveniently taken to where you left off. It works that way on the phone, too. I use anyport in Desktop Mode whenever I look at it on the phone. Can you try that?

I don't know if anyport looks the same on all phones, but on my android phone the "regular" way is really ugly & a few things are missing. If I put it in desktop mode and turn it sideways (landscape) it looks exactly the way the forum looks on a laptop or desktop computer except of course much tinier. I find doing anyport on the phone completely unsatisfactory, especially in terms of wanting to write anything.

Before this is maybe moved elsewhere, I'm with Mick. I only look at the forum on my computer. I've bookmarked the "Recently Updated Posts" page and that is where I always go to first. I don't open the different branches and see what is new or any other way, I just click on my bookmark and get a list of the new posts, no matter which thread/branch it is on. I know some/many also do this.
But - no matter which new post I click on through the list, it defaults always to the first page of the thread. I do remember some many years ago some other conversation about this and at that time it did depend on where you went to first and in some ways you always got to your last read post first. If you see what I mean.

Yes, it comes back to me now, but....... ....that's why I'd forgotten than info because I never, or at least extremely rarely, go into that page of recent threads. I use the recent posts page because rather than just see the thread that's been updated and then click through, I see the posts that are new as I'm not bothered about which thread they are on. But... a revelation.... one that had again come back to me and I have no idea why or when I stopped doing it. I think it was when I had no internet in Spain for many weeks. To get to the exact post shown in the Recent Posts page and not back to the beginning of the thread, you don't click on the thread title, you click just below it on the "Result #......" Bixa, it might be handy to leave this here for a while until Mick sees it and then maybe slip it over to the technical thread or something?

Yaay ~ everybody's happy! Good to know that Recent Posts trick, Mark! I'll just put in my two cents here regarding what one uses to start browsing the forum: 1. Participated -- only good if you're in a big hurry to see if something you're following was replied to. Otherwise, using it exclusively means you can miss too much other stuff. 2. Recent Posts -- [Mark wrote:] I'm not bothered about which thread they are on. I have to disagree with that. Just the other day I was rabbiting on in what I thought was the coronavirus thread. It turned out that it was the thread about the virus in Paris, so what I said was sort of off-topic. I note that sometimes other people also do that -- post in one thread about something that's going on in a different one -- and I think it's because of using Recent Posts. 3. Recent Threads -- all new stuff, all the time. Whether it's a resurrected thread from way back, the latest comment on an ongoing thread, or a brand new thread, clicking on Recent Threads will lay it all out in front of you. Then, when you enter one of those threads by clicking on the appropriate spot in the line-up, you'll be taken directly to what is new specifically to you.
