I can't imagine anyone being jealous of snow, unless it is just a pretty dusting. It is disabling.

We had a dusting of snow, but it has melted. However, it has turned quite chilly; temps hovering around 0°C or a bit more. I liked the seasonal days of dead photos. Here that extends to Remembrance Day on the 11th.

Your photos sent me back to living in Nebraska & raking leaves, Kerouac.

I don't think that maple trees grow naturally in Europe, but they are becoming more and more common in parks.

The Norway Maple certainly is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_platanoides There is one in front of our triplex. We can keep it as it is a beautiful large tree, but are not to let its babies take root, as it is an invasive species here. Are our native maples an invasive species in Europe?

My favourites are sugar maples, with their indented leaves and their red colour in fall, but I don't see many. I guess it depends on the region, but what is really common where I live now, and also turns a beautiful red at this time of year are liquidambars, not maples but similar looking.
I find it hard to think of trees as "invasive species".

turns a beautiful red at this time of year are liquidambars, not maples but similar looking. I find it hard to think of trees as "invasive species". I love them. In Louisiana they turn bright yellow usually -- not enough chill or whatever to get them to tun red. As far as invasive trees, you need to go to Florida where Brazilian pepper trees (Schinus terebinthifolius) and eucalyptus are driving out native species.

Herefordshire Hops ...its that time of year again , a time of olfactory overload as I pass a tractor and trailer carrying a freshly harvested crop. I stop and pause as I walk or ride , but ,if driving, I wind my car window down . All just to enjoy the unique smell of hops . These, of course, are dried, but still have a remnant of freshness as I smell them.

That is richly beautiful, Lugg! I've never seen hops growing except in pictures, and didn't realize they developed autumn color.

Out for my constitutional I came across this all over the path. When I was a child these chestnuts would very quickly been gathered up and scoffed. Kids nowadays are spoilt with too much grub
