Sure? The flower colour is right and the time of flowering is too. There are a lot of different Erythrinas admittedly all round the world.

Mick, I'm going to take it to my local garden centre and see if they can identify it. There is a possibility it could be a Natal Bottle Brush - Greyia Sutherlandii. I have been looking on Google and I strongly suspect that the tree is a: Weeping Boer-Bean. Schotia brachypetala. Order: Fabales. Family: Fabaceae. Subfamily: Caesalpinioideae

Ok - mystery solved. It is indeed a Weeping Boer-bean tree ( Scotia branchypetala Sond) Also know as the Tree Fuchsia and African Walnut. FYI- Brachypetala means - having 'short petals' in Greek , and refers to the flowers which are unique among Schotia species in that the petals are partly or completely reduced to linear filaments .

I'm sure that this tree in the Square des Batignolles in Paris has seen it all for the last 200 or 300 years.

That tree has the look of an Ent Absolutely! I hope people are kind to him and not draw attention to his presence. If he gets well known some fool may hurt him.

Kerouac's tree looks as though it's rearing up.
Cheery's pictures make me wish I were in England.

Kerouac's tree looks as though it's rearing up. Sort of like the whipping willow in Harry Potter?

As autumn draws to an end and winter is just around the corner, it is easy to spot the Syringa trees - Melia Azedarach - or Persian Lilac tree, as the branches become bare with the last of the leaves turning a beautiful yellow gold. This tree is a volunteer and has grown larger every year. The spread of this so called Alien vegetation is a result of first bringing them into the country from India. I think I will let it be unless it gets too high into the electric and telephone wires. In the background are the 1943 Pacific Redwoods on the farm across the road.

Cacti are masters of it.
