upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bd/Jan_Vermeer_van_Delft_021.jpgVermeer's famous painting of The Milk Maid is currently on exhibit at the Met in NYC,just the one painting. I have such mixed feelings about this, all the hoopla, the lines wrapped around the block, for one painting. I would love to have seen it but would not subject myself to this herding for one painting. I know it's great revenue for the Met but I hate this kind of exhibiting. Three years ago there was a small exhibit of some lesser known Vermeers at the Frick and we went, small venue, way less crowded,so much more enjoyable.

I agree completely. Am similarly hoopla- and herding-averse.
I do always ask for any Vermeers when I go to a major museum.

Thanks guys. Back to the OP and the fact that ONE Vermeer painting is the sole feature of this exhibit and the sensation surrounding. Should all the other exhibits at the Met suffer the throngs one painting draws in attention? My intent on going to the Met was to visit the sculpture garden on the roof and because of one Vermeer could not get near.(great lead in for a poem or song!)

I have a friend with what I would consider plenty of money who redid her kitchen in such a way that it feels like a Vermeer setting. Black and white floor tiles, the whole bit. She doesn't like to cook, though.
