I personally TALK to my computer. I tell it what I need to do and I tell it I expect its cooperation. I sometimes give a nice pat to the printer before I use it. it works.

when my old computer used to constantly crash before being fully started, i had all kinds of attitudes to deal with it - like, watching it and waiting would make it crash, while going somewhere else after turning it on, made chances bigger it would start without crashing.

My cable box has been making television channels disappear. I press "2" and I get "4" instead, because 2 and 3 have both disappeared. I have to unplug the damned thing for 30 seconds to get my channels back, but it is happening more and more often.

This is more a >>poof!<< it reappeared story ~~
I was wrangling the three dogs -- my two pint-sized doggies & the big coltish rescue pup -- to the area where I let them off their leashes when I ran into a woman I know. We were chatting as I struggled to unhook the straining canines, then there was a mad dash and yelling as they took off after some chickens.
Anyway, we continued our ramble which consists of their tearing around like crazed things in an area they love, full of empty lots, a dry wash, other dogs, some high grass, and hardly any traffic. Then I put the leashes back on so we can cross the big road back to my neighborhood.
When we got to the street we usually go down to cross the big road, I decided to skip it as the previously chased chickens were on it. Going to the next street & making the turn, I pulled up on the leash to keep the puppy from snatching up something in the dust. Glancing down, I saw it was my house keys, which I had not realized I'd dropped.
WHEW!!

On a road trip with a friend once, I parked the car -- I remember it was in the city of Orange, France -- and we got out to visit the Roman theatre there. As I walked around the car, I saw there was a half pack of pocket tissues lying on the ground next to the passenger door. "Did you drop those?" I asked.
Well, yes he had, and after picking it up he showed me that it was where he kept his Visa card, between the tissues, since he did not have a wallet.

That is a similar miracle! Usually people don't notice such things, much less think to ask about them. Something else went poof! yesterday. I'd taken the dogs over to the previously mentioned area & was pretty annoyed by the puppy, who wanted to play-fight with Harley rather than get on with running and rambling. She's much bigger than he is & continuously rolls him & goes for the throat. Anyway, they finally got going and we wound up on a street with a grumpy chow, who furiously chased Harley for over a block. When we finally all rendezvoused, Harley was missing his collar. Now, he's a short doggy & there's lots of tall grass, so I don't know when & where he lost it. What galled me was that it has a recently purchased 10-dollar tag with his name & my phone number on it, not to mention that a collar is so handy for attaching the leash. When we got home & I was taking the leashes off, the puppy was trying to detach Darla's collar via the side release clasp, leading me to think that she got a taste for that kind of fun with Harley's. side release clasp:

Prisoner?! ho ho ho
The other evening I came home after dark, to the usual enthusiastic greeting at the gate. Amidst the licking and bouncing and petting and yelling 'down!', I heard some frantic scratching. It was Harley, who'd wound up outside the gate in the melee, & who was frantic to get back inside.
