Frero Delavega was already mentioned in #11. They separated a few years ago, but a lot of their music is on the way to becoming classics.

Are they a Paris-London version of the Angels of Berlin? I knew Slimane, but not Vitaa.

This is the first time they have teamed up. Vitaa is actually a bigger star than Slimane.

Could be, but the same stars don't necessarily catch on to the same extent over here.

Winner of Song of the Year in France in 1994. Winner of Best Song of the last 20 years in 2005. It's all in the lyrics.

I still find this song from 8 years ago delightful, particularly the participation of Fanny Ardant.

And even though this is not a "chanson française" I feel impelled to include his best song ever from before he moved most of his career to France.

Going back to Django Reinhardt and on through recent times to the Gipsy Kings, gypsy music has always had a certain popularity in France. The most recent star has been Kendji Girac who won The Voice in 2013 at quite a young age since in 2019 he is still only 23 years old. Color Gitano remains his biggest hit, but he has had plenty of others since then. He still lives in a trailer (he claims), but I think he spends quite a bit of time in hotel rooms on the road...
He was actually discovered on YouTube doing a cover of a hit by a French rapper.

Vincent Delerm is the son of a famous writer and his songs are just as literary as though written by his father.

I personally have always extremely disliked Serge Gainsbourg (but not as much as Johnny Hallyday) and yet both of them managed to create a few songs that I do not dislike.

As usual the media personalities have come up with a charity song for Covid-19. This one might almost break records by using 350 famous (in France) people -- singers, actors, comedians, sports figures, television personalities, news people, writers, YouTubers -- everything including the kitchen sink. Compiled remotely in confinement conditions, so considering the number of people, I must say that some people are worked damned hard to do things like this.
All money goes to AP-HP (Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris) -- 44 hospitals but also lots of other establishments including nursing homes. More than 100,000 employees. Of course, all of this is just for the Paris metropolitan area, so too bad for the rest of France. Better luck next time.

That version of Foule sentimentale with the lyrics would be excellent for teaching French, given Souchon's excellent diction and the witty but punchy lyrics.

Yes, and the "propos" would be relevant in most countries by now, even poorer ones.
