The breakfast programme I listen to has a "croissant corner" every Saturday, for listeners' requests for French songs. Last weekend, this jolly - if inconsequential (but it reminded someone of summer holidays driving through the south of France)- little earworm was played and has stuck with me since: My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

Two utterly lovely songs in a row, and so different from each other!

Yes, Juliette's song with its evocation of a flooded Place de la République reminds me of my nightmare of flooded Paris, and the rest of the dream. At least I saved my cat, which is the most important thing. I like her very much; she is not at all into the star-system and its codes, she looks like anyone you might run into. She is also lesbian, which is fine, and anyway none of my business.

Julien Doré was a winner of the "French Idol" show (Nouvelle Star) in 2007 and has remained an alternative star since then.

This is an ironic homage that Eddy de Pretto made to his first paid singing job on Parisian dinner cruises on the Seine...

The faceless French techno duo Daft Punk have made a video to announce their separation after 28 years.
For anyone who feels unaware of their existence, here are one of their biggest hits.

France is currently commemorating the 30th anniversary of the death of Serge Gainsbourg. Like him or not (my own case), the music industry everywhere very definitely recognises him as one of the most important composers and musicians of the later 20th century.

I'm obviously not listening to the right news. Totally unaware of this commemoration. Didn't like the guy anyway. Not too long ago, I stopped in Montparnasse Cemetery in Paris and a woman was cleaning the tomb, putting fresh flowers... don't know if she changed the CDs decorating it.

Several periodicals have published special editions for Gainsbourg. It is not the sort of thing that can be conveyed in a news flash. In Les Inrockuptibles this week, there are testimonials by at least a dozen international stars recounting how the discovery of Gainsbourg completely changed their careers. It appears that "Melody Nelson" one of the first concept albums in the world was seminal.
The articles also pointed out that by the standards of 2021, he would probably be in prison. Gainsbourg's encounter with Whitney Houston is endlessly shown on television in France as one of the most horrifying moments of live television ever.

I still enjoy listening to Histoire de Melody Nelson, but any remembrances must be awkward as **** in our woke present.

Even before this woke present, it was known that he was a dirty old man. When he died a friend of mine defended his songwriting even as she admitted that morally he was repulsive.

DJ Snake is as French as you can get. He's the one with the bleached hair and dark glasses. Here is another example in a different country (which I recognise as being Los Angeles).
