It started late last night and is still with me today. It's horrible. I can't enjoy my food and I can feel it on my tongue. My tongue is slightly coated. What's happened to me?
I'm thinking that my body is going through a phase of excreting heavy metals and that this must be what I'm tasting. I do know that I have a fairly high level of heavy metals in my body cells. I had my hair analysed a couple of years ago.
Two weeks ago I sent off a tablespoon of hair to be tested for mineral content to a lab in Texas. I'm waiting for the results.
I hope this vile taste goes soon.

Oh no. What do you think it's from?

Well, in a way I'm joking but then again perhaps it's true. Several years ago my hair analysis showed that I had very high levels of lead, cadmium and aluminium in my body cells. The report also showed my levels of minerals such as calcium, magnesium etc. The only explanation I can think of is that I live on a fairly busy street (always vehicles going past and parking with idling of engines) and over the years I have inhaled poisonous fumes. The body accumulates heavy metals (Lead etc) over many years. They are initially stored by the liver and put out of harm's way but when levels go on rising they have to be put into body fat cells. From time to time the body cells 'break down' and the poison is released into the bloodstream and from thence into the hair. By the way this is not imagination on my part, it is chemistry.
Of course one doesn't know when the heavy metals will be released. One can have a hair test and there might be no heavy metals showing at all. This does not mean to say that there are no HMs in the body. It means they are being stored. So perhaps, in a way, it's good to have the metallic taste in my mouth as this could be an indication that these metals are being released and therefore there is less chance of my having a build-up of metals in my brain. Something like that! It's very complicated.

Spindrift, until the taste goes away naturally, try swishing and gargling with hydrogen peroxide.

You can't buy hydrogen peroxide from the chemist any more. I've tried! I dare not use ordinary household bleach

How odd. I wonder why.
No! don't even think about regular bleach!

England is now a 'nanny state' and stuff such as hydrogen peroxide and mecurachrome have been banished.

Have you tried pressing an egg yolk against the roof of your mouth using your tongue? ;D

That will certainly make you forget the metallic taste.

Imec - Ugh, how horrid. I feel nauseous at the very idea.
The metallic taste has disappeared. Thank goodness for that. I haven't received the written report of my recent Hair Mineral Analayis yet but a friend has read it and says I have well-over-the-limits of COPPER and LEAD as well as dire deficiency of Magnesium. For years I've had problems with high copper content which must be due to copper waterpipes....or it could be that my body has a problem with metalbolizing ZINC which would then lead to a result of high copper.
When I receive the report I'll scan it and show it to you. You'll find it very interesting.

Do you eat fish, Spindrift? I understand there is a lot of heavy metals found in fish. The result of decades of impunity for industries to pollute our environment. I do not know, but can only guess it could also be present in other foodstuffs.

How about arsenic? Isn't that supposed to give you a metallic taste?

Annie - yes you are right....fish, mostly the large fish such as tuna, are full of mercury.
Hwinpp - I received my Hair Analaysis back from Great Smokes Labs (Texas) and this indicates I'm full of copper (far above the reference range) and Lead.... I'll scan the graphs and put them up next week when I've time. It's so interesting.

Imec - ;D
As soon as I get the scanner out I'll put up my Tissue Mineral Analysis graph.
Thanks Annie....
