Asado! Asado! -- mojecas and morditas and maybe even some beef.. short ribs? steak? oh my. how to choose. Here in México, a "mordita" is a bribe to a cop or an official for "special favors", like not being cited with a ticket for a moving violation. Or, maybe it's a "morDida".

A lot of people say that about the mud crabs hwinpp. This weekend we are going camping near a river and no one else can camp there We'll try to catch red claw yabbies and maybe a fish or two. I lived in Derby WA in 73/74. It was the first time I could really do what I liked (within parental limits of course...). We went after mud crabs at the jetty, cherubins (a term for prawns I've never heard anywhere but Australia) and barramundis in the Fitzroy and ducks and geese (and the odd wild turkey ) at the billabongs. Swimming/flowery crabs aren't bad but the mud crabs are something else.

I don't have the slightest idea what to eat tonight. So I guess that means pasta.

Tonight was my leg of lamb, and I don't think it I have spiked so much garlic in it ever before. And that made it all the more spectacular. It was bathed in olive oil, rock salt, pepper and herbes de Provence, nothing else.
I decided to stew some tomatoes with it -- a nice change from potatoes or flageolets.

kerouac, you will tell me where that Belleville place is and how it is (better than little Torcy? I confess a fondness for Torcy as it is one of those out-of-the-way little corners nobody knows about).
I'm popping downstairs in a couple of hours to have slow-roasted lamb shoulder, strong red wine and various other victuals with friends.

Are we talking about where I ate last week? It was Halong at 5 rue de la Présentation, just behind Le Président in the 11th.

late lunch today was pork steaks, with parsnips roasted with ginger and honey, as well as a kind of rhubarb and apple "sauce" (un-sweetened rhubarb and apple stewed in a little water and lemon juice). might well have the rest later, spiced, maybe sweetened to accompany whatever crosses my mind at the time.

My leftover leg of lamb (some of it anyway) is turning into a "gigot Parmentier" this evening.

Yesterday I cooked.
Mashed potatoe and pork belly cubes in Campbell cream of mushroom sauce. I know, lazy, but not that bad.

That's funny lola. Mine came out divine if I must say so myself,it's a Martha Stewart recipe. Then a friend brought over some cannoli's from a wonderful Italian Bakery,Broccato's.

Nice. Will look for the Martha version then. I should be really nice and make it sometime not on his birthday, when it's too hot to bake anyway.

Tonight it was necessary to eat in the hotel room, but I had foreseen that eventuality and was properly equipped with saucisson, goat cheese, hard boiled eggs and wine. All I had to do was buy a baguette.

A toasted slice of home made pumpernickel bread, sliced queso doble crema on top, and some daubs of local guava marmalade. (Breakfast was a large one.)

Tonight, I'm going with friends to a middle eastern restaurant, Mezzetta , just around the corner. Great food and on Wednesdays they have entertainment, usually jazz. www.mezzettarestaurant.com

But Middle Eastern restaurants are supposed to have cheesy belly dancers from El Salvador or another such country!

The owner often begs me to don my turquoise belly dancing costume and do the honours, but tonight I prefer to relax with friends. My fans will be disappointed.

I am having an omelette aux fines herbes tonight with fresh eggs from the new hens in the neighborhood chicken coop that I'm involved with. Five fine hens! I'm very excited.

I bought salad greens, and now I must decide if I will mix them with my chopped up smoked pepper mackerel, my stewed chicken livers or my fresh goat cheese.
No, I will not mix in all three, even though it might be really good!
