I have a husband that hates "string" meat. What a perfect term!

It is cheap string meat.

Kerouac, what is bourguignon meat?? Short rib, skirt, thick flank, brisket?? Do tell as I have a husband that hates "string" meat. My fiend in Rossendale always uses skirt for her beef steam puddings. I would love to hear what Cheery and other buy. You have a fiend? Crikey!

I have a husband that hates "string" meat. What a perfect term! As kids, we loved mom’s pot roast - cooked in a pressure cooker - which we called “stringy meat”. I don’t know what cut of meat she used. We also called her pork chops “rusty meat” for the color of their pan-fried “crust”.

Love those terms!
My mother makes a great pot roast, sometimes with a thickened gravy and sometime au jus. When my brother was little he deemed the second one as "skinny gravy", a term that has stuck to this day.

Skinny gravy! Now why didn’t WE think of that?

I'm waiting for someone who might or might not come by. It's someone I want to see (tech guy) & I do understand that he works all day & has family obligations in the evening. But I am hungry now & it's already past the time I'd like to at least be getting supper ready. <-- 1st world problem

Two uses of my Peking duck. I have also shredded some of it into soup, and the last bit will be finished for lunch today in a sandwich with chopped green onions.

I may not go the PHO` route after all. I found you can buy a PHO kit in the Woolworths food section. It has two items in the box. One pouch of the "Secret Essence of Pho" and the other , the noodles. But the cooking instructions state you have to have beef stock, slices of beef or chicken, fresh sliced onion and some beansprouts and lastly a bunch of fresh basil. Product of Thailand. I can't wait to try it!

We’ll be having chicken paprika over noodles tonite. But I considered doing a mole sauced chicken before settling on the paprikash.

I've never thought of Peking Duck as a take-out item. The last time I had it I think Mao was in charge and you had to call the restaurant 24 hours ahead.

I put in the fry pan some thick slices of mushrooms and then added a half a bag of kale slaw and let in wilt with the mushrooms. I had boiled a package of ramen noodles. I made a dressing of soya sauce, lemon juice, pepper and olive oil and combined all in the fry pan. It was very good, I will be making this often but might try adding peppers the next time. A quick and easy meal for when I am by myself. I had seen a version of it on Facebook.

In my slow cooker at the moment is beef mince and the necessary herbs etc., for a good lasagne. I will be assembling it later with spinach pasta sheets. The box has been in my fridge for a very very long time but on inspection they are 100% PERFECT. Keeping them out of the store cupboard has prevented the weevils getting them.

Your mushroom/kale combination with ramen sounds perfect, Mich, although I'll have to use swiss chard since I never see kale. I wish I hadn't read your post, Huckle, as now I am craving that. Fat chance! Nice idea to use the spinach pasta for your lasagna, Tod.

I thought because I adore Mexican cooking that I'd really like food from other countries in Latin America, but it turns out that I love Mexican and Peruvian, but all the rest... meh, it's OK.

We are slow-cooking a pork loin roast in the crock pot on a bed of cut up potatoes, carrots, and onions. The roast was rubbed with salt, pepper, and thyme, and slivers of garlic were slipped into slits cut into it.
The cottage smells heavenly, and we’ve three hours to wait!

We liked very much the rice and beans with stewed chicken or fish type meals we got in Belize and Costa Rica. Kind of boring in their repetitiveness, but tasty and felt healthful.

Understandable but if you substitute 'Europe' or even maybe 'Africa' and then name a country where you liked the food it wouldn't be unusual.

It was hard to find a good meal in Cuba. The two best restaurants were Chinese and Russian.

Myanmar/Burma was a challenge for us. The availability of Indian food saved the day for us.
In South America, meat eaters will like Argentinian cuisine with its chimmichura sauced meat heavy meals.

Went to market earlier today & had a moment of inspiration looking at pretty colored bell peppers. Purchased everything I need to turn the inspiration into a nice meal. It's almost 5:30 pm now & I have no desire to make or eat supper.

My family are all working hard everyday as Level4 starts on 1st May when there will be no mucking about- the restrictions require everyone to wear a mask when shopping. We are only allowed to sell mask fabric, elastic and thread, along witht the sewing needles and a few bits and bobs. I just know its going to be hard to turn away sales for upholstery for instance. People are also looking for things to do around the house and obviously need the stuff to do odd jobs with it. So here I am today, cooking them a pot of chicken curry. Done the yellow rice with sultanas as well, plus bought them 4 lovely Naan breads when I slipped out to Woolies at 8am this morning.
My husband is not a fan of chicken except roasted, so we are having lamb ribs instead.
