So this evening I made cauliflower cheese...made the cheese sauce with cream, topped it off with golden breadcrumbs, grated parmesan...sprinkled with crispy grilled bacon pounded into a powder. Served with a soft white roll for him and a wholemeal roll (crusty) for me. It was lush. Yum

Looks pretty good to me!
I think I'll be having smoked herring with crème fraîche tonight, probably with some chopped onions as my vegetable excuse.

I made pork sausages and pork chops (off the bone) for the protein tonight. Just two each. The vegetables were cabbage, carrots and spinach in one pot, and then cauliflower and broccoli in a cheese sauce in another dish, and a small pot of mashed sweet potatoes. Maybe later tonight I will indulge in a apple danish pastry with a cup of coffee.

You just reminded me that I have pork sausage meat somewhere in my refrigerator. Using that it more urgent than my smoked herring!

I roasted a 'Flattie" chicken tonight in my airfryer followed by a dozen or so very small rostii. They were the freezer type. Together with an enormous salad we are well fed tonight!

Spatchcocked? (one of my favorite words ) Tonight I had really nice fresh huitlacoche cooked with poblano, onion, and rice. I treated myself recently to two stainless steel sauté pans, a 5.5 quart and a 3.5 quart. They're a dream to cook in, so tonight I used the smaller one for the huitlacoche along with raw rice & boy, did it come out well. I also had steamed asparagus and a fresh cut-up tomato with basil.

I bought some duck pieces which I am simmering in spicy Chinese poultry goo with potatoes and onions. Having tasted the sauce, I think I will be crying tonight but with a little luck, they might be happy tears.

Tonight was my contribution to a meatless meal. I made macaroni swathed in a thick cheese sauce with loads of parsley. I love parsley. On top of the macaroni layer I laid a ring of small young aubergines and in the middle of that, long slivers of courgette covering the inner top. I spread a thick layer of a tomato based pasta sauce over all, and finally sprinkled cheddar over it. Baked for an hour in a moderate oven. If I say so myself it was divine! A green salad with red onion on the side.

That really sounds lovely, Tod -- quite rich, but still healthful.
My supper last night was pea salad -- defrosted frozen peas with chopped onion & hard-boiled egg, dressed with cilantro, olive oil, & pepper vinegar. Cottage cheese on the side.

My fiery stewed duck was not bad at all. But there was definitely too much salt in the sauce. Thank god I did not add any salt myself.

Tonight I made a flaky tart of courgettes, aubergines and onions. This was very unusual because I am not a big fan of tarts, courgettes or aubergines. Big fan of onions, but I did not overdo it. Anyway, it wasn't bad at all, although half ot it is left so I might formulate a new opinion tooorrow or the next day when I finish it.
My upbrining dictates that I try things I don't really like from time to time to see if my tsstes have evolved. And sometimes they have.

Tonight it's roast de-boned leg of lamb. With all sorts of vegetables from the garden except for the butternut squash which will be roasted whole alongside the lamb, and the potatoes.

Cold dinner tonight. Avocado, lettuce, yellow tomato, smoked sprat, blue cheese, ham, halal spicy turkey, pickled mango, probably something I forgot.

It is rainy and cold here today so I took out chicken this morning and baked it in the oven! This summer I have used my oven more times than I can ever remember.

It was a public holiday yesterday - Womens Day - I did a onepot wonder. Spaghetti boiled in vegetable stock, a jar of Sicilian sauce ( tomato based with chili and herbs) added with a dozen large shelled and deveined prawns. The only thing a missed was the fresh parsley as I had none but the ton of garlic made up for it.

Last night was a major salad with blue cheese (not roquefort) crumbled on top. I had to drink a lot of water to offset the salt. I find just about every cheese too salty these days.

I bought blue cheese today - President Double cream Brie and Double cream Camembert/ We don't get much choice or a selection of cheeses like you do Kerouac. Sad but true. A blue cheese salad in my house comes with a similar dressing and sliced apple and celery. Walnuts also take it to bordering on the Waldorf side.

I made a steak but also a concoction of cubed courgette, aubergine, onion, Moroccan capiscum, puréed garlic and grated parmesan in puff pastry. It was really very good for an improvisation of ingredients that do not generally appeal to me.
Petty Alzheimer trauma: my jar of puréed garlic has now disappeared. Can't find it in the refrigerator where it normally lives, not in a cupboard either and not on the counter. Where is it going to suddenly reappear? I certainly did not leave the kitchen with it.

I think you threw the "baby" out with the bathwater! Did you look in the trash? Or, in your freezer section?

The jar turned up in the refrigerator door with the Pepsi Max when it normally lives on one of the shelves. Meanwhile, merguez and mashed potatoes is one of the simplest French dinners imaginable.

Last night was lovely fresh fish with a large baked potato. I usually make a sambal of diced onion, tomato, cucumber and parsley in a mayonnaise dressing, but last night I decided to use a store bought hollandaise sauce for the base. Was great.
Tonight will be savoury beef mince, herbed rice and two vegetables from the garden - Broccoli and Swiss Chard.

I made potato pancakes tonight. Today's variation was to add a long Moroccan bell pepper that had just started to shrivel into the grating wheel of the food processor. The result was excellent.

On Saturday I was in Sainbury's supermarket. When we lived down south I did all my grocery shopping in the local Sainbury's but when we moved to Leicester Jeff preferred to visit the (cheaper) local Tesco and Asda stores instead.
Anyway.
When we were first married (45 years ago) we liked Sainbury's packet chicken noodle soup...it was quick to make, tasty and filling. So when I saw the packet in the store on Saturday I thought...'Aw...I wonder if we'd still like it'
How tastes change! It was so bland... I had to fry up some chopped onion, garlic, celery and curry paste and poured over the insipid soup..Added in cooked minced chicken (leftovers) and a sheet of dried noodles...and a few stock cubes...So in the end we did enjoy our chicken noodle soup..but it might have been easier to just make my own.
