so, being a german and confusing words, i bought some pumpkin after someone told me to add squash to the vegetable curry i am planning to make. can i add pumpkin instead? or should i throw it away?

Yes -- pumpkin is a kind of squash, so you did the right thing. It should be really good in curry, too, as the texture will absorb flavors beautifully.

yeah it was nice. i didn't have quite enough curry sauce (or rather, i bought too many other ingredients, so the amount was more than i had sauce for) so i told people it isn't quite as spicy as i meant it - but they all seemed to think it is spicy enough... made one with pumpkin, potatoes, onions, chick peas and a few peppers, and one with mushrooms, chick peas and onions... i liked them both...

Normal squash is just nasty. I don't think I would even feed it to the pigs. They deserve better.

well yeah it disintegrated a bit but in a good way... hm, i hope my mom invites me for pumpkin soup this fall. she makes very nice pumpkin soup. and her pumpkins grow in trees.

Riki, there's a pumpkin soup or cream of pumpkin friends used to do for me in Germany that was excellent. They used the small round orange coloured ones with the Japanese name.
I find pumpkin mash to be quite good too, prepare as you would prepare mashed potatoes.

Rikita, if you have any of the curry with pumpkin left, you could mash that right in the frying pan. That combination of curry flavor with pumpkin, chickpeas, and potato would be a perfect mash.

actually i had a tiny bit left but i threw it away today because i thought that five days is a bit long to keep it...
well for now i should more make the vegetables i still have in the refrigerator before they turn bad, as i couldn't eat them i nthe last days... wonder what will trouble my stomach least - aubergines, beans, or kohlrabi?

Yes, all nasty. Bon appétit, though. You can absolutely eat my share. K2, there is so much variety in the squash family. I can only think that you have never been offered a well prepared squash dish. I personally prefer winter versions over summer, although I like almost all of them. One of my favorite fall dishes is stuffed acorn squash. This variety has a similar texture to pumpkin. Here is a photo of a dish that I made last winter (and that I might have to make this weekend) of acorn squash with a cranberry and mushroom stuffing. Very tasty, I thought.
