Hmmm... it's a pretty tough area for the books to keep up with. My own technique to find out up-to-date things is to find the websites of the local newspapers and see if they have any cultural or tourism information. When they do, there are usually some good weblinks.
But naturally, the big problem and/or worry is often security, and I don't think that any print or internet source is really reliable. Only the locals can really give you useful advice and warnings. However, there are quite a few internet forums that you can scrounge up that are specialized in places like that, and you can at least get the good stuff like "robbed in front of XX hotel last week" or "shady-looking character took us to a wonderful place we never would have found and it was the best part of the trip."

Wild! This is not really what you're looking for, but is interesting for the capsule histories and overviews, plus links: www.retosa.co.za/Here are news links for Africa. I am passing this link on without knowing anything about it. Perhaps someone here can comment on its reliability (or lack thereof): www.worldtravelwatch.com/You can rummage through this site to see if there is anything useful.

I looked at the video, then googled information about Zuma. What I learned is that I know almost nothing and certainly understand nothing of South African politics.
