We are staying at a lake condo (townhouse) in Wisconsin that has been in Mr. Kimby’s family since 1973. Our neighbors are usually quiet and respectful since we live in close proximity. Most of the noise comes from the boats and jet skis on the lake. A recent innovation is stereos on boats. Ugh! Yesterday I was jolted outside by very loud music: Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, coming from outside the condo 6 units away from us. Three people sitting outside around a table littered with beer bottles. This unit changed hands recently and the new owners need to be briefed on close-living manners. I tried to be tactful in admonishing them to “turn it down or take it inside.” Fortunately they acquiesced.

Good job, Kimby! It's always infuriating to have to put on a nice face in order to remind boobs that other people live in their frat-house version of the world.

I would have simmered in silence, had I not been in the company of another neighbor who had no qualms about setting the new kids straight.

I continue to be amazed at how certain peoples' values have changed about what is proper behaviour in polite society. Is that just because of my age or are things really going to shit?

It's just after 6 am & very quiet even though the hotel window (double-paned) faces a busy street. It was not very quiet when the rowdy street people woke me up at quarter of four this morning & kept me away with yelling, cursing, and hooting.

I have come to find out that there is indeed a word for this and it is an actual disorder known as hyperacusis.

It's just about time for me to go get the Swipper so I can use it to bang on the ceiling. I wish to indicate to the upstairs neighbor that, much as I like old-style punk, I don't like it muffledly booming into my apartment at quarter to ten at night.
As I typed the above, the volume was lowered (but not enough). Probably I'm not the only neighbor who doesn't appreciate his musical sharing.

I have to admit that ever since I started going to college, I have been in love with radio stations that play "cool alternative rock" late at night. Happily, there are plenty of them in Paris.

Same here K2.
A shriek (mine!!) as a huge Palmetto bug just flew in and landed on my computer screen (the balcony doors are open in order to hear the early morning birdsong). Now, I know it's in this room somewhere in the predawn light and I keep hoping "Pompeii" the cat will do his job after being fed an especially rich breakfast!!

There has been a lot of needless honking all morning, which can be translated as "I'm a young male and I'm so excited about the football game in a couple of hours that I'm about to pee myself!"

The main sound is the cheap plastic table fan at work, plus a plane just flew over.

Electric fans....and Django keeps barking for no apparent reason (loud bark for such a small dog!) Channel 4 news mostly droning on about how Trump thinks that he can use personal relationships to change the world..because he sees himself as a great statesman. Flip to Trump boasting.

I do believe it is officially "prom night" in the pond and rain barrel there is that much mating song from the tree frogs and, maybe a few toads, but, the frogs have a full chorus going on. Maybe they're having a post football fete.?

Sat in the garden at 9.45am having a coffee. Mrs Cactus in the dustance chatting to a friend on the phone and varios wood pigeons cooing away. Rather pleasant.

Bloody pigeons. I often wish for a shotgun, but then remember that my neighbours out the back might not like getting their windows shot out.

It must be the good one if everyone wants it! I'm sitting right next to the dinky little plastic table fan and don't mind the noise as the fan is only thing keeping me from melting.

I was at Place de la République this evening and the dominating sound was that of skateboards hitting the pavement after various acrobatics with or without their owner still in control and upright.

Sitting outside having a beer after a very busy morning. Somebody in the distance hammering. Actually not unpleasant as it is slightly echoing.

actually surprisingly quiet just now - just the occasional voice or sound of a beer bottles or cars ... no loud singing, no drunken rants ... almost as if it was winter ...

Two doors away there are 4 guys taking off a slate roof. Lots of hammering and shouting but they took it off remarkably quickly.

You should go find out what happens to the removed slate. Maybe you could snag some for a garden project.
