I saw that photo when it was first released and found it frustrating that there weren't more pictures and follow-up. Your link filled in the gaps.
What is going to happen if humans ever encounter beings from outside earth? Isn't it the case that chimpanzees are our closest relatives? They have been extensively studied and many of the studies were publicized and popularized. I found it odd that the picture was presented as though grief in chimpanzees was cause for surprise.

Actually, the bonobo is the closest relative to humankind, except they have developed one technique not fully mastered by humans yet -- they settle every conflict of every kind with hot unbridled sex.
