Glad I finally got up early enough to take a sunrise-on-the-mountains photo, or I might have missed Kerouac's beauty! (The photo, I mean, I haven't met the man!)

Excellent, Kimby! Naturally, as winter approaches, it becomes easier and easier to be up at the right time to see the sunrise.

Yes I am very lucky.

Mid december sunrise, easier to get up for (8:55 a.m.) Solstice sunrise. Amazing to note how far the sun has travelled toward the south since the autumnal equinox, not to mention the summer solstice.

When I see a sunrise like this it makes me wonder how much I am missing with my head buried in my pillow until the sun creeps in my window..... Taken two weeks ago when we made a 4.30am start to Kruger National Park.

Fabulous -- and we all know how difficult it is to capture a sunrise (or sunset) properly since our cameras are always fighting us about the exposure!

Fabulous, Tod! And I hope this doesn't sound stupid, but the second one looks so beautifully African somehow.

Thanks ! The major difficulty here wasn't the camera so much as my demands on the freeway to 'stop the car'! We can't let a scene like that disappear without a photo!" Then driving on while I kept watching to see how the sky was changing minute to minute. Thats why I have two photos of the same sunrise - just as it progressed. I took at least 20 photos and selected these two as the best ;D

Totally magical 6lucky! The imposing steel Eiffel Tower etched in black against the early morning sky. The street lights floating like diamonds beneath it. Just great!

Thank you, Htmb. That's dawn somewhere over Texas, with the clouds making a bridge. And Mitt was right -- those plane windows don't open, thus the smudges.

It's really a good picture considering it was through airplane glass. Always listen to Mitt

Very good Rikita, I particularly like how the main ray from the sun lines up with the aircraft contrail.
