I thought that this was an interesting take on the double standards of the movie industry.

The title of this thread reminds me of how my older brother would leave notes on the kitchen table along the lines of "SEX: now that I have your attention. Please wake me at 7 AM."
I'll check it later: I might not be allowed access from my work computer.

I don't think it's a double standard as much as an acknowledgment that naked men don't sell movie tickets and naked women will. If it were discovered that there was a huge untapped demand for SF films depicting naked men, I have little doubt Hollywood would fill it.

I don't know that they sell tickets, necessarily. Well, wait. Why not?
I liked the naked wrestling scene in Eastern Promises. Would I go because I knew there was such a scene? Probably not.

It's not fair on us women who DO like to see a nice unclothed male body. Must say, Bruce Willis' behind looks very touchable! (Am I allowed to say that)? I always thought Jeff Goldblum's body was magnificent in the 'fly', and his odd personality made him really interesting too. And Arnold Schwarzenegger can leave his shoes under my bed anytime. Even better if doesn't try to talk.

Oh my! I only just checked him out. Do you want to do a swap? I'll give you Bruce Willis (and his rather nice behind!), and I'll take the gorgeous Hugh Jackman. Howszat?

Sorry Deyana, I saw him first and I am keeping him. Besides, Hugh is worth Bruce plus at least one other guy (but none of the others on the list did that much for me). ;D
Regarding the OP, I was reminded today that Ewan MacGregor has dropped trou in at least 2 movies, The Pillow Book and another one that I can't remember right now - but neither are Science Fiction. Oh, and I recall a memorable bit of male anatomy in Boogie Nights, which is also not of the SF genre. I am quite sure there are other non-SF examples.
I also recall reading somewhere that the main reason the ratio of male nudity to female nudity in film is so unbalanced is due to (perceived or otherwise) general male discomfort in seeing nekkid men on the big screen.

In French movies, it is become practically obligatory for both actors and actresses to show all at some time in their career. There is even a new trend to show the male anatomy 'ready for action' although this is more common with more mature actors; actors at the beginning of their career seem to find this embarrassing. Of course, now there is a permanent blur between reality and special effects with the increased use of the body parts of porn actors and some creative editing, as in the Danish movie "Antichrist."

France has always been very forward about nudity in general though hasn't it?
cristina, okay you win!
