Yes, that's cork bark. Southern Portugal has vast areas with cork-oaks.

Do you have a photo of the trees with numbers on them, indicating year of last harvest?

Something is written on the trees, but I don't know what it means.

I just performed the pleasurable task of going through this whole thread again to make sure I hadn't already posted a photo of the subject below. It seemed like a distinct possibility since the doorway is less than 50 meters from my apartment, but no. (It might be on the first Ganesha thread, because it was the location of the previous temple.) Anyway, I just wanted to say that there is a lot of great stuff on all the pages, with every imaginable expression of wood from carpentry to driftwood.

It's always worth reviewing these photo threads, IMO. Amazing show of talent - and diversity.

I love the dizzying swirl of the last one (and for once, I know where it came from, since I saw your abandoned garden thread...)

Anyone want to buy a piano? No one plays on it anymore, not even the kitties.... (just noticed more wood in the background, perhaps deserving of its own photo)

SFO, and technically, it is not wood but concrete molded from the actual pieces of wood.

This could go in the Stumped thread, but I have a different photo for that. BTW, last year I posted a shot of this same stump from the other side....

Again such a variety of really good photos within the thread.
The detail within the fence is fantastic, Bixa . Mossieylove how your photo shows the contrast between the strength of the metal and the fagility of the wood .

Mossie, after a rather erratic start, it looks like the bird that built that nest became much more organized.
