Reveillon, the ages old French dining tradition to celebrate the "awakening",or that time after Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve,when people indulged in rich dishes to break their fast. New Orleans absorbed the tradition in culinary fashion by having stellar (and some not so stellar) restaurants offer beautiful,multi-course meals. I see almost 40 restaurants listed in the area that are participating in the tradition. Is this observed in the French areas in Canada as well? I have been once,it's so very late for me. Would love to do again, but I doubt it will happen this year. I will rustle up some menus showing the culinary fare being offered up.

Oh yes, very much so, but it is more something done in the home in Québec, Acadia (your cousins) and other places.
You can no doubt find such a gourmet version of réveillon here as well in our fine restaurants too but most people choose to make their own (perhaps buying a lot of the supplies ready-made, including tourtières).
I have a hard time staying up that late any more. But since I'm a heathen and very rarely attend Midnight Mass, we'll just do it earlier in the evening.
There are Midnight Mass celebrations here well worth attending even if one is not religious, for the music.

In France the Dec 24th meal is also called reveillon. Most people don't go to midnight mass any more, but they do tend to have a big, fancy meal late on Christmas Eve.

We have a "reveillon" meal before going to midnight mass. But I don't like going to midnight mass (or Easter sunday's mass) as it is full of people showing off. They are there like you would go to a cultural event/the theatre. They are there to see and be seen.

I heard on the news that midnight mass at the Vatican has been moved up to 22:00 this year because the old man can't stay up any later.

Odd he couldn't nap earlier in the day.
I'll probably make a tourtière, though I can also buy a very good venison one at the market. I'll have to find some recipes for the Gallery...

We are just doing a very simple réveillon, with a salmon and other fishy things, as everyone is tired. One of my best friends can't come as she has what is euphemistically called "stomach flu" (or the runs at both ends...).
It isn't a true réveillon as we are eating early - about 7 or 8 pm - and I'll probably be home by midnight.
Sadly, I can't see your restaurant casimira. I don't understand as it is just an .html link.
I did see something about a cycling holiday package. Though in North America I fear they might lend out mountain bikes, which I hate. Everyone used to laugh at my trusty granny bike, but now they are so trendy that I actually had one stolen (my CCM Sunsport - it was such a pretty bronze colour). I don't like the geometry of mountain bikes for city riding - I like to be upright.

We have been invited to a Reveillon celebration hosted by a couple that live just down the street and around the corner. Both of them are chefs so I anticipate a most excellent feast. Likely only a dozen of us if that. I will most surely have to take a nap for this. (the majority of the guests are much younger and will conceivably go out afterwards to one of the music clubs nearby. No way...)

I'm sure you meant "midnight mass" and "music clubs" was just a slip of the finger.

Midnight mass holds nice memories. We would be woken up and dragged with our parents in the cold to the church. That was a real family thing for sure.

The same here Whatagain but we didn't have Reveillon. But, here in New Orleans it is very popular and is an old Creole tradition that's been revitalized more and more over all the years that I have lived here.
('twas a slip of the keys K2. Of course I meant Midnight mass)

Reveillon is still an obligatory part of both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve in France (and I'm quite sure in Belgium, too). However, there is much less of a need these days to start late and stretch tne meal out until midnight. For one thing, the older family members (who are probably also the ones who most want to respect the tradition) now want to be in bed early, and everybody is fine with that -- especially if the younger ones have plans at the music clubs (but more on December 31st than December 24th).
I will be alone as usual (and by choice) and just need to decide what sort of thing(s) I want to ameliorate my evening meal, because I still feel that it is important to mark the occasion, if only to respect family traditions of the past.

The only thing I might do "special" is eat some of the large Argentinian wild-caught red prawns I bought to share with my friend C. from that country, as she left earlier than planned finding a cheaper flight. Though I may do nothing at all. I want to be in bed early too when I can - I slept 12 hours with my purry little cat from Friday to Saturday, and just can't stand the sudden cold (it had been very mild).
My housing co-op is having a festive event this coming Saturday at a nearby Vietnamese restaurant, and I'll see other friends, but several of my close friends are away now.

That Mangé Loa menu looks quite interesting and inventive.
