Miss France was elected last night in one of those ridiculous contests that so many countries do. However, this time the public was quite satisfied with the choice, because this is the first time that the choice was made 100% by the viewing public (in recent years their vote only counted 50% because there was also a "professional" jury). Miss Normandy won. She is far from repulsive, but the entire country was talking about her today due to a certain detail. Visual aid below. What people are wondering about is her name, which is Malika Menard. "Malika" is a 100% Arabic name while "Menard" sounds typically French. So everybody wants to know the name of her parents, and they are cleverly keeping that a secret. Obviously the buzz will not last long, but it is amusing to see how important this unimportant detail is.

People are thinking that the father is French and the mother is probably Kabyl.

Mystery elucidated. The parents have come out of the woods, and they are 100% ethnic French, but they thought that the first name Malika was lovely when their daughter was born.

Good for them. Not that it should matter - the beautiful actress Isabelle Adjani, a long generation older is of Kabyle and German descent.
Malika means Queen - in Hebrew Malka.

Mixed race people usually are more beautiful then the average person, so I've found.

sorry, but i have to dispute this a bit in that sense that - first of all, beauty is a somewhat vague concept - who is beautiful - and then secondly, what exactly is mixed race? all people are, in the end, the result of mixture - just i guess in some cases the mixture is more recent and apparent than in others...

Have they traced her ancestry?
I'd have thought she's a Thai that's been under the knife a couple of times.

I read in some article that transgender candidates will be accepted in the Miss Universe contest starting in 2013.
