Even if the weather was not the best, the town deserted and not much going on, the majestic chalk cliffs with that arm reaching out to the little lump beside it is fantastic. And getting out of the city for a change of scenery is worth the effort to go there. It makes me consider doing a day trip there in September, or even a weekend.My Guide book on France call the cliffs Falaise d'Aval (likened to an elephants trunk)

It must have been sort of a treat to have the two towns to yourself, and getting to see the fishing boats go out is a real treat. I can see where Etretat on a warm sunny day would bring in droves of visitors.
