Even if you must go alone, you should see it. You won't regret it.

I agree. Treat yourself and see it. I see most movies alone and this doesn't bother me at all. To be honest, for me, it is like going to art galleries, and reading books...I prefer to lose myself in the experience and not be lectured, listen to endless commentary and be forced into 'reviews' before I am ready. When ready, I am willing to be accompanied. Maybe.

I can't see it on the big screen!!! There are only 2 cinemas here, and they aren't allowed to show Western movies

HW, when you go on your work trips outside Cambodia, is there time to take in a movie? Or would you even want to do that, with all the other stuff to do & see?

I actually saw Titanic for the first time in Bangkok. Yes, I stood up during the Thai national anthem along with everybody else. I don't suppose I've told you my story about being an extra in Titanic?

Actually, I refused to be an extra, as much as someone begged me to do it. It seemed like a dumb reason to go to Mexico. When I went to Santo Domingo to be an extra in Havana, all of my hard work ended up on the cutting room floor.

I finally went to see Avatar and loved it. It took me a wile to get into the 3D-ness of it all, made me feel a bit woozy at first.
On the whole fantasy film thing I think it was amazing, but LOTR still can't be beat for sheer magic for me.

Do you all think it matters where you sit in the theater for a 3-D movie? Should one sit in ones regular comfort zone, or would it help to be closer or further back?

Well I tend to sit as close to the middle of the cinema as possible and did seeing avatar. most people were sitting further back so maybe they knew something I didn't

And I sit very close to the front -- I was fine there.

Yep, we sat near the front too. (I just go along with what my kids want), but it was fine.

I think they are shameless to release a new version of Avatar today with just 8 extra minutes. And then the upcoming DVD will have another extra 9 minutes. I think we need to wait until 2012. By that time, they will have added a least an hour. They are really milking this thing for every penny they can still squeeze out of people.

Since I have about 80 television channels on my cable service, Avatar keeps showing up, and I confess that I watch bits and pieces of it regularly. I have come to respect it more and more as a super effective action movie and also of breathtaking beauty visually, even without the 3D.
It absolutely deserves its status as the highest grossing movie of all time... for the time being. And I have trouble imagining that Avatar 2 will be better, because it will not benefit from the element of surprise and wonder.
