I would imagine that they would be brightly decorated, though, not like this one.

Funny you should say that, as the photos reminded me of cemeteries in south Louisiana: and the inscriptions on the tombs are similar as well, although I don't know if the writing on the Wadi al Salam tombs are recordsof the deceased or prayers. The ones in La. cemeteries are moved from the front to the sides of the tomb when the stone is filled.
