This thread began by talking about lemon zesters and they have continued to be of interest. Just found this item offered on sale with what is advertised as an orange peeler. You can't fool me -- that's a lemon zester for the outdoorsy chef: 54% off! www.ebay.com/itm/321815616123?rmvSB=true

No, I just really think I can't live without out one of these useful gadgets. I already have an "egg guillotine" - not the kind that works like scissors, but a spring-loaded thing that makes a nice, even crack around the top. Useful if you enjoy soft-boiled eggs - and it makes a very satisfying noise... imgur.com/eeiLTFX

I too have the scissors-type egg guillotine. It is so special my husband does not allow it to be used. WHY? Try asking him that - After seeing that new one...I've decided I want one!

tod2 - I never could get the scissors thing to work without breaking the shell all over the place. Maybe if I had bought an expensive model, it would have been sharp enough to do the trick.
The spring-loaded guillotine is great, once you get the hang of it.

You have to really snap things like that with confidence to get them to work properly. Most of us try to be careful and that's where we go wrong.

I read that same article today and couldn't figure out any possible use that I would have for such a thing. It seems like it could come in handy with a big family, though, especially in this modern age when so many people serve themselves and eat individually rather than sitting down for a meal together,

Oh ~ that is super interesting to me since I have wasted spent many illuminating hours researching Instant Pot and its copycats online.

It was bonfire night last night so there have been fireworks going off for hours on end every night since Thursday. Lots of displays around the city and a psycho barking shivering snarling hound has kept us awake every night. SO we've been taking it in turns to have some sleep. I sat up with Django until the wee small hours on Saturday night so Jeffers took over at 0430....I shouldn't have let him watch tv...
He watched some shopping channel and was very excited about an air fryer being demonstrated by an enthusiastic chef and a ravishing yet greedy presenter...soooooo guess what we've got?
I said 'But we already have a perfectly suitable electric fan oven, and I don't fry often if at all...why do we need an air fryer'
'BECAUSE IT'S HEALTHY' (allegedly) he said.
So far we've had some 'healthy' buttery toasted cheese sandwiches and some barely cooked chicken that I refused to eat. That's £89 I'll never see again..

Yes, I once had all the excitement of a cordless vacuum cleaner bought by a husband who never vacuumed. It would hold a charge for about 20 minutes. That was according to the side of the box -- the box I never opened, the better to immediately return it to the seller.

At the moment, I am using my two egg slicers more and more often -- the traditional one that makes thin round slices and the other one that makes six vertical wedges.
I also use my Mandolin blade quite regularly.
I am wondering why I bought a zester. I never use it.

Kerouac, you could send your zester to Casimira Casimira, this is a joke. As for me, a friend bestowed a little espresso machine on me. Not large, but I have practically no kitchen counter space, and if I decide to keep it, it will stay on a table in my office.

I used my egg slicer yesterday when I added hard-boiled eggs to the potato salad I made for lunch. It's small enough that it's almost not a gadget, even though I rarely use it.

As serendipity would have it, we just gave one to a couple having a "house warming" party. (I had 3!!!, 2 never used). The one I use is that fabulous invention from Lee Valley. I will never use another.

I have family in Ottawa and in Gatineau (the Québec town on the other side of the Ottawa/Outaouais River), so a pilgrimage to Lee Valley is on the agenda whenever I have the time - family visits can take up a lot of time, and if I'm working in Ottawa, no way can I get there. Lee Valley is dangerous though, as it is a paradise for gardeners, woodworkers, cooks and others who find uses for their myriad products. www.leevalley.com/en/home.aspx Great news for me!!! They are opening a store this autumn in Laval QC, the suburb comprising the island (île Jésus) immediately north of Mtl island, and yes, the métro goes there!!!!

That is exciting Lagatta! My brother-in-law orders from Lee Valley often and has ordered for us. We have purchased a lot of cupboard door hardware from them, great selection!

Yes, it is on the métro line closest to my house.
bixa, their shipping to the US is easy and not expensive, but I don't know about Mexico.

Indeed you do, I see Herts on the little map: www.visitleevalley.org.uk/So many places in the New World (not only the Americas) are named for places in respective mother countries or regions.

Lee Valley has been discussed on here several times. Page 4, post 114 in particular, shows my grater/zester. I also use it for ginger. I value their garden tools very much and as mentioned they are very reasonably priced. They also offer garden secateurs for "south paws", a great boon for me. Other garden supply companies charge exorbitant prices for left handed tools.

I'm also left-handed, as is the friend with whom I'd be going there.

Since there was no other option, I learned to use all of the usual things in the right-handed way (scissors...). I find that I can't use the left-handed items now.

Those are always good, but you actually have to use them. Some people get tired of cleaning them very quickly. Not me -- I don't care if mine is slightly "not perfect" from time to time.

I've only had it for 2 days but I've used it quite a lot...my son has a lot of smoothies as well so it will be used. It seems better than the stick blender for smoothies anyway...

Smoothies are one of the best things to use it for... and pina coladas.

I hate smoothies, but you can also make batter with them - I love pancakes from chickpea flour, and they are very cheap to make. I've only used the stick blenders for making pesto (usually started out by hand-chopping) and don't know whether they do that well.

What's a "stick" blender? I thought all blenders had the standard stainless steel blades. Never heard or saw a"stick".
Anyway, she's a beaut Cheery!
I haul mine out every now and then for pesto and also for when I make gelato or ice cream.
I have no counter space in my tiny kitchen.
