12-28 February, six more weeks. This is the third time that Canada hosts the Olympic games (1976 Summer in Montreal, 1988 Winter in Calgary).
Do you have any champions that you are supporting?

I'm wondering if there is going to be any real snow there.

It's not been a good year for snow fall. They've had to transport it from other areas, so I hear.
Hal, who will I be supporting? Canadians ofcourse!

Snow is being brought in by helicopter. Couldn't they move the games to Washington DC?

France is basking in surreal glory as (very temporarily) the country with the most medals, two of them gold. In the end, it will be in about 17th place.

Hmm, have been avoiding this thread due to the humiliation of Friday night's "erectile dysfunction" - and yet, no mention of it...

I mentioned it on another thread, imec.

It's amazing to be able to watch the olympics on television here when it's DARK outside and yet... just north of here it's still daylight!?

oh, and may I ask about the "erectile dysfunction"?

oh, and may I ask about the "erectile dysfunction"? There was a major malfunction of the indoor cauldron during the opening ceremonies where one of the four spires of the cauldron failed to "rise to the occasion". Catriona LeMay Doan was left standing with a torch in her hand and nothing to light.

oh yeah, I think I heard something about that... along with all the other problems with this Olympics. Apparently the British press is really giving it a hard time... and reading the comments on the CBC webpage makes me so angry (but it always does, and yet I keep going back for some sort of sadistic pleasure...) I guess everyone's complaining that there's too much/not enough French ... a few commentors were enraged that the announcements are first made in French, then English. When will the Anglos and Francophones ever get along in Canada? The Olympics are always first in French... it's the official language of the Olympics.
btw, the American snowboarders were awesome today on the halfpipe!

Even though most of the "snow countries" (Scandinavia...) have small populations, I always expect them to get more medals. Russia should do better, especially since they are the hosts next time.

I got lucky and turned the tv on at precisely the minute they were showing Lindsay Vonn's run yesterday. I also saw the terrible fall the German skiier took. I am amazed they can walk away from those so unscathed.

Some of those falls have been horrifying, and I am thinking that a lot of this fake snow is much harder than natural snow.

Yeah k2, when I was watching the moguls I kept exclaiming to my co-workers how awful the snow looked for skiing! It just looked so slushy... that would be difficult to ski on... especially for those used to better conditions. I imagine Vancouver skiers are used to it...

I've been avoiding the news all day because I know the women's super G was at 11am (more or less) my time but NBC is not showing the race until 7pm. In the meantime, I have been thoroughly enjoying ski jumping. If I can ever get over my fear of heights, this would be the very first sport I would want to try. Also, wondering why some sports are called "Ladies" and others called "Women's." As in Ladies skiing and skating, but Womens curling and hockey. And why are there no "Gentleman" sports?
