Some people say it's too kitschy. Others, like me, adore it in moderation. Some aspects of this era include Open spaces and streamlined shapes Boomerang shaped coffee tables Bauhaus style prints Sparkle vinyl and Formica countertops Curved and minimalist furniture Anything that reflects the modern "space age" like using orbits in open woodwork for lamp bases or starburst clocks. Best known designers of the era: Eames, Saarinen, Todd Oldham, and Jacobsen - the designers that inspired Danish modern. Our house was full of Danish teak furniture when I was growing up. The best place to see some of this design is here: plan59.com/decor/decor_01.htm and here: www.flickr.com/groups/atomicranch/ Now, too much of anything is bad - but a few things here and there are fantastic! I love my Heywood-Wakefield furniture, starburst clock, and Fransican Starburst dinnerware. So, what do you think? Love it or hate it? And has any of this style influenced you?

I think it's dismissed as kitschy because so many of us grew up with it, so we have lingering bits of teen sneering at the old folks. But so much of it is incredibly good design! My parents had a wonderful Heywood-Wakefield bedroom set. I once saw an entire house furnished in H-W and almost wept from desire for it. When I lived in the States, I had Danish modern with lots of retro 50s touches. Some of it I loved because it was goofy, but some of it was really classic stuff. Your pottery is wonderful!
Aussie, check out the 'watch the birdie' and 'retro bambi' skins to see if they do it for you.
