This shows a combination of two classics -- Savon Cadum and Dubonnet, one overlaid on the other. Your eyes are better than mine, K2. I'd have had a hard time sorting that one out without your xray vision!

It's all a question of having the logos and slogans ingrained in you. While the two brands pictured mean nothing to you, if you saw a faded Coca-Cola ad overlaying a Kodak ad, you would probably recognize both in a heartbeat even though almost nothing is left.

In olden times, Dubonnet ads came in threes. Dubonnet is a kind of vermouth like Martini or Cinzano. First you would see DUBO ("good looking") The next one would say DUBON ("good tasting") And the last one would say DUBONNET. This is the first time I've seen DUBONN instead of DUBON.

Great old advert for Trans World Airlines, Kerouac. With these old sign posted walls I sometimes wonder if the guy who painted it up there still walks past and gives it a glance....or maybe he's long-gone

Considering the fact that it is a propellor plane, I would say he is long gone. This is in the suburbs on the road from Le Bourget airport.

'fraid not. I think that if they were still there, they would have redone their sign.

Cool signage but, FRIED CLAMS?? Very curious indeed. Not in this neck of the woods, most certainly frozen imports. The only time I've ever seen fried clams offered here was at one of the old Howard Johnson's downtown in 1973. (one of their signature menu items).

After looking it up I see that Asian clams are indeed available in several Parishes here in Louisiana. I've never seen them offered, be it in Houma or elsewhere.

There are some really interesting ( as well as great) photos in this thread. I like your last K2 in that it is just barely visible. I wonder how long it will remain so.

I was very intrigued by this the other day. These appear to be reproductions of painted ads that were extremely common in the 1930's (Ripolin paint and Bénédictine liqueur) yet they are certainly brand new. My only guess is that they have been created for a film shoot, but CGI has become so perfect in recent years that there would be no reason to actually make these ads in real life -- computer trickery could very easily put this on the wall. So... if it is for a movie, it is not just background, but perhaps one of the characters is a sign painter...?

Love the light in Kerouac's photo, and the richness it gives to the colors. Also love the subdued but eloquent severity of Mez's picture, with its contrast in textures.
