I have not been in here in months & now see that I have missed some great stuff. What variety, too!

Just read this about my picture above at #180. It's beautiful -- let's kill it. Sheesh. The municipality painted over that mural. This one fell victim to their "beautification" campaign a while back. SO much else that really needs doing around here, but they chose to wipe out some internationally recognized street art instead.

What a shame! I bet the artist is furious, not to mention everybody who saw it on a regular basis.

Sorry the news link is in Spanish, but briefly, that piece was exhibited in London. The blue girl in the other link was painted over in October. The official explanation is that the colors do not conform to those permitted in the historic center and that they don't "go" with the city's identity.

Old and new pub signs: though I'm not quite sure how the new picture relates to the name of the pub! My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

Nice photograph and intriguing subject. A little googling turned up: The Horse & Groom, Cottington — Arthur Dent's local in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy source. That explains the book in the picture, but not being a Douglas Adams fan, I don't know who the couple arising from it might be.

Horse and Groom is a fairly common pub name. This one is in Curtain Street in Shoreditch, London; it's possible there may have been a coaching station in the area in the nineteenth century (but there would have been plenty of horses and grooms in London anyway, of course). The entwined couple is some sort of Shoreditch artistic fancy. My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

That is super, must have taken a lot of planning and hard work, but is so worth it.

O it is very sad to see, (what I can only describe as a complete arsehole), has done to that beautiful mural.
