That was the article writer's problem with the original recipe! To his credit, he made the roast the original way before creating his more healthful version, which he claims tastes identical to the original, minus what he calls "a faint chemical bite" from the packaged ingredients.

I use my crock pot a couple times a month. I like using it for pork or beef and ham is also quite good. My recipes are very basic using salt, pepper, spices, sometimes juices like pomegranate, vegetables such as carrots or onions and sometimes I slice up an orange to put on top of a pork loin roast. It is very convenient when I know I will have a busy day in town especially when we are later than planned, it just goes to keep warm mode. When I get home I just make a salad to with it.

I like the "faint chemical bite", it makes the recipe!
What I DON'T like about crockpot cooking is having to brown a piece of meat in a skillet first, and also having to do a lot of chopping and dicing before loading up the crockpot. I go for the "dump it all in" kind of recipe. Quick and easy.
Best thing about crockpot cooking? The house smells heavenly all day. Kinda like Thanksgiving, with a turkey roasting in the oven most of the day. And the cook can enjoy cocktail hour without getting too loopy to cook dinner!
