Canada's Montgomery wins skeleton

Canada has a military chief who is likened to the old WWII British general of that name - 'Monty' of the Alamein campaign. He's recently retired and has trained to be a Surgeon. On completion of his studies it is traditional that a name is drawn out of a hat from all those also recently qualified. He has won.
He has won a night out with Kate Moss.

Here's another one for Mark.
Butter poached buffalo wings crispifed.
I think it meant crispified, but even that baffles (or do I mean buffles?) me.

GB men's curlers secure vital win I had no idea that there was an event for men in curlers. If you had gone on to read the article you may have realised the emphasis was not on men wearing curlers, though it does happen, it's actually a lot simpler. Each year in the south of England where the southern jessies live there is a world renown hairdressing competition. It's not an individual one, more a duel of nationalities. On many occasions the French have won overall due to the men of that nation having a liking for carrying handbags. This article refers to the discipline of hair curling where each team are given straight haired volunteers who proceed to have their hair styled in waves or curls. They are judged on the pleasantness of the outcome. The British team were falling behind in the overall totals and this win has boosted their chances of winning the Gold. Traditionally the British have done poorly in this competition and it has been dominated by the more effete Australians. We've always done well in the 'Skinhead cut', the upper class 'Floppy bit over the forehead' and the innovative 'Croyden facelift' (Google that one) but less well in the 'Natural undyed hair' category. Controversy reigned at the last meet when the Jamaicans managed to slip into the pool of volunteers they used several women of the same nationality who had had their hair straightened by the overuse of coconut oil. All the team had to do was give the hair a good wash in baby shampoo and the hair naturally returned to it's normal shape. For obvious reasons these volunteers were called "ringers".

No-one should be immune from being insulted be they regular or not. None of us is immune to being insulted, these are public forums. I question when people who do not normally post on a forum decide to leap in out of nowhere and reprove and /or insult a regular poster. Why do you think someone would do this? Would someone do this because it is an adrenalin hit? Loving to stir things up? Enhancing his ego? Do you consider this creative? What do you think?

In the case of a new handle, my mind slips immediately to Double Handle. Mark, with his professional experience of aliases, would doubtless agree.

Here's another one for Mark. Butter poached buffalo wings crispifed. I think it meant crispified, but even that baffles (or do I mean buffles?) me. You are right to point out the misprint. But it actually goes further than that. The word should be 'crucified'. The butter mentioned it actually ghee but most wouldn't understand what that is, so they've chosen the nearest approximation. The headline refers to the following. Each year in a remote northern Indian province a strange ritual takes place. The origins are forgotten, the reason for it becomes confused, but the facts speak for themselves. It is of religious significance but even the holders of the ritual and the village elders argue over what should happen, when it should happen and the emphasis placed on various elements. It does appear to be a celebration of some sort as regards the influence of worship practises from foreign parts. It is made using various elements of several religions together in tribute and each year the elements are different. This year they've amalgamated the cross of Christ in the crucifixion, the wings in recognition of the ancient sky burial techniques of the Tibetan Buddhists and they wished to use a cow for the Hindu part, but understood this would be too controversial. So a buffalo was subsituted. One part of the tradition is the carcass of the animal used is distributed among the poor. That's why to make it more palatable it was first poached in ghee with various spices and herbs in an old recipe from the kitchens of the Maharaja of Jaisalmer. Several years ago the animal aspect of the ceremony had to be forfeited due to the incorporation of the Jain religion. Many disgruntled and hungry poor sacked the meeting house of the organising committee and kidnapped for ransom one of the very young children of the head of that religion who was advising on protocol for the ceremony. Several weeks went by with no news, which resulted in the headline, "What Ever Happened to Baby Jain?"

Raphael, who am I to question the motives of anyone? I may have in the far distant past instigated some devilry in a forum and whether it is right or wrong to do so or whether the degree of right or wrong varies with the antecedents of the poster, it is not for me to make a judgement.
As in life we are all judged by our peers. Unless you live in somewhere like Zimbabwe I suppose.
And I agree with Baz.

Researcher spies new Adobe code execution bug This is in reference to an affliction common amongst those who live in houses made from adobe. The affliction takes the form of suffering from cold and flu like symptoms which are persistent and cannot be shaken off easily. Years have passed with no solution until recently a researcher at Boots the Chemists spied and interesting phenomenon whilst perusing his Petri dishes. He saw that a small amount of lime juice will restrict the growth of the Adobe virus. Further research was made and he realised if you add salt and tequila also, a bug formed that completely killed off the virus. The headline does miss out some punctuation marks for brevity I suppose. Where it states - Researcher spies new Adobe code execution bug - the word 'code' is a lame attempt at a joke as it is how you sound when pronouncing the word 'cold', when you are suffering from it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A thread started a short time ago on Anyport from Jazz regarding his banning for 48 hours due to his (her?) liking for deleting posts and it throwing a thread out of being comprehensible. Most entertaining thing I've read on there for ages - then K2/Bixa go and move and lock the thread so I now can't lurk and read it. I've had to log in.
Hmmm, Mark, it seems that you consider yourself an 'innocent'. You also considered yoursef well and truly capable of being a 'judge'. Happily for you, the 'old boy's network' rushed in to defend you. I do not live in Zimbabwe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You're being selfish. It's not all about you. It's about everyone else as well, which you fail to see. You persisted in deleting and altering your posts under the guise of creativity when the effect you failed to see was that the thread, or parts of it, became incomprehensible and disjointed.
If you want to change what you've said then simply enough post a correction. You can still let your 'creativity' have free rein but in a more understandable way. It's not so hard.

Very interesting Raphael. However in fairness maybe I didn't make myself clear. I was referring to devilry instigated when using a second (or even third) handle that is not generally known. Using the one you normally use doesn't count. I was referring to the fact that I have done this in the past, and now that it comes to me, I have done recently, but you've failed to pick that up.
All the things you have quoted are not addressing the main point. They may in your eye be judgemental or whatever but I was trying to say that I feel we cannot judge the right or wrongs depending on whether the poster is regular or not.
I am aware you don't live in Zimbabwe. I was referring to Zimbabwe having no functioning fair government. Not that you live there. I do think I know where you live, and it's on a hill. No?

And you are getting away from the subject of the thread. I don't mind, but in fairness to Baz and any other do you want to start another thread continuing this, or maybe we can discuss this via pm's? As you are a regular user of this forum in reality then I'm sure you understand the protocol.

No, I do not live on a hill. You have not made yourself clear. We seem to be have two different ideas of 'the main point'. My points: 1. You are avoiding the issue. The issue of second , third ad infinitum handles is totally irrelevant. 2. I question your agenda, then and now. 3. After not posting for 7 months, you chose to push yourself in the forefront of a discussion that had nothing to do with you. You were the first in 'out of the gate'. It did concern the regular posters who were, or were not, affected by deletions. Then, the 'old boy network' rushed in to support you. 4. You chose to attack. 5. Not only did you attack, you then went to another forum and OP'd a thread to introduce the subject and to ask for support at how hard done by you were that Jazz defended herself from you. (who wouldn't?) When questioned, why did you care?, you answered. Re: Spoilsports « Reply #9 on Feb 17, 2010, 4:40pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OnlyMark: Jazz has another thread now, as you may have discovered. writeon, I'm interested because the controversy interests me and like on every forum there are threads that hold the eye and those that don't. And the mischievous aspect appeals to my sense of wanting to disturb the quiet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ God bless you wanting 'to disturb the quiet'. We are both 'right' I suppose, given that we appear to be discussing two different issues. There was the original issue that was important to the OP, jazz, and concerned the rest of the forum. You leapt in, not being here for 7 months, and attacked, with no understanding of the situation. Jovially, your supporters picked up on a minor issue (the number of posts) and, all was well. Perhaps I don't understand 'forums', but I do understand when something is important to a person. I do understand the issue that the person is worried about. I try to respect this. Thus, can we dispense with 'double handles', 'Zimbabwe', 'living on a hill' etc? The bottom line is that you were unaware of the basic point and sidetracked the total discussion, even into another forum. The relevant people were aware and understood.
