A little thing. I wanted to buy a bottle (bonbonne) of gas (lpg - nlg) for my bbq and saw my tankstation had received some. Actually he irdered 15 was confirmed 15 and got 3. So they were all gone 2 hours later when i came with the car. I sais : ach too bad, should have been quicker. The guy said : no, i kept one for you, since tou came testerday and asked for one... Commercial, maybe, but nice and thoughtful.

Very nice, and quite a surprise, in these days.
Casi, my initial post about the irises WAS grateful. It was the later post that “looked a gift horse in the mouth”

Yes, that was thoughtful, Whatagain!
Kimby, I am in complete sympathy with your wish for perfection!

That is a good tankstation keeper. However, I can't imagine why you needed gas for your barbecue since I was unable to come.

I've been cleaning up my bedroom closet (one of these strange places one finds in older houses or flats, a narrow door then a dark space extending along the wall; the hot-water heater is at the end - a spa for clothes moths! Not easy to clean. I'm disposing of a very heavy vacuum cleaner that I've never used since I got a smaller stick one. Suppose the old one is more powerful, but as I never use it that doesn't make so much difference. I have hardwood floors and no carpets; the main thing to hoover up is cat hair. I found a pair of pretty Chinese slippers that got lost in there a few years ago! They are black, with embroidery of stylised leaves and flowers in leaf green, dark rose and violet, with golden stems. They are the kind of supportive slippers one can also wear for short jaunts outdoors.
I still have to get rid of a lot of stuff.

Your slippers sound lovely LaGatta.... I was in Hôtel Chocolate today arranging a chocolate hamper to be delivered to my firstborn and his wife...also picking up a few packs of pralines for us all.. The manageress asked which were my favourites (I adore pralines as do the family)and went over to the display picking up 2 packs (each pack has 6 chocs in) and added them to the bag, 'from us' she said. Free chocolates

I went out for a late morning walk with our dog and happed upon a yard sale just a few blocks from where we live. I didn't know these folks but they were a couple around our age. For under $5.00USD I came away with a pair of brand new ugly but sturdy and versatile Doc Martin work boots exactly my size, a white cotton cardigan (to wear when I go into the freezing cold AC at the grocery), 2 brand new tank tops, and they threw in four strands of vintage glass Carnival beaded necklaces that they must have seen me eyeballing.

Bargain! Dockies are so expensive here...I still have my red biker ones but they're too heavy for this weather. Jeff keeps threatening to throw out my birkenstocks...so comfy but the soles are almost worn through. Had a peek in a few shoe shops today but I'm still not 100% comfortable about going in. The assistants are all very young. In this neck of the woods they think that covid infection is mainly being spread by the under 30s.

You got free chocolate, Cheery?! So then it's true that goodness really is rewarded. Gad, Casimira -- that's one of the great bargain yard sale hauls of all time!

I gotta say it was the highlight of an otherwise hot, sucky day. I heard the strains of "The Sultans of Swing" about a half a block away and then saw stuff. A Yard Sale? Indeed, and, meeting some new folks in the neighborhood. ( I never walk in that direction so that was what made it even more cool. Lesson being, change direction every once in awhile. You never know where it might take you.)
I meant to ask Cheery about pralines. I never knew they existed outside of Nawlins. How is that so?

Not many pralines around here. Usually I don't like sweets but did like those.
You'll be very happy to have the Docs. If you have any yard or other renovation work to do. And they are so kewl many will never view them as ugly.

I think pralines in England are something different than what we call pralines -- maybe something like turtles?? Pralines ~ Turtles ~

Pralines in France are just roasted sugar/candy coated nuts.

That's what they are like her and in umpteen different flavors. The two main ingredients however, sugar and pecans. I would rather the "turtles" any day.

I vote turtles, too. But I’m a bit surprised a proud NOLA resident would admit such disloyalty! 😉
And I would really prefer my turtles without nuts. I’m a caramel fan.

The French pralines are not stuck together. This video certainly makes it look like they're more trouble than they're worth to me, which explains why people basically only buy them at fun fairs or outdoor markets.
Meanwhile, the American praline giant...

There is a pecan one too...basically smooth nutty chocolate with a smooth chocolate coating. You can taste the quality and 2 chocolates each is more than enough imo.

This video certainly makes it look like they're more trouble than they're worth to me, which explains why people basically only buy them at fun fairs or outdoor markets. In Louisiana the kind of pecans you describe ("roasted sugar/candy coated nuts.") are often made at home & given as gifts around Thanksgiving and Christmastime. There is also a savory version. I don't know who the writer of this piece is, but I also have family in Morganza, New Roads, & Pointe Coupee. Forget the video you posted. Make this recipe and report back: www.thelouisianaweekend.com/my-pointe-coupee-special-candied-pecans/I would rather the "turtles" any day. And I would really prefer my turtles without nuts. I’m a caramel fan. I like the taste of caramel, but don't like its gummy stickiness, so a caramel-free turtle would suit me fine. Cheery, your pralines are a whole other ballgame!

We are having the funeral for my sister at the end of September. My brother-in-law has asked us each to include something to be put inside the niche during her internment. While shopping today, my friend suggested something to do with the kitchen since she was an amazing baker, a natural talent but also schooled. While strolling through that department at Home Sense, I came up with the idea of a set of teaspoons that I will have each spoon engraved with a family members initial. Now to find the perfect set but I was really happy I thought of something.

Yes, and I have to attend the (delayed) funeral for my slightly older and much larger brother who tortured me throughout my childhood and adolescence. Of course he was deeply screwed up, but that was no reason for him to inflict his rage on me.
No, I'm not happy that he has died, as often men like that become very placid at a certain age and are no longer acting out their rage against other people.
Obviously I hated him, but hoped he could live his later years in peace and not full of violent rage. And he seemed to have done that.

You are kind to hope for peace for him considering he was so horrible to you. I hope in the end he deserved your grace and that he was kind to someone in his life.

I was really happy I thought of something. You thought of not only the perfect thing, but something that included everyone. LaGatta, I did not realize that funeral had not happened yet. That's another cruel side effect of the virus shutdowns, but hard to take. What a lovely and gracious thing to say, Mich.

May I just bring up that putting somebody in a grave is called 'interment'? 'Internment' is the imprisonment of someone.
