Wow! You weren’t exaggerating when you said he was all banged up! Poor little thing. It must have been a very traumatic experience for everyone, but he sure looks great now. He will forever have battle stories to tell!

The dentist certainly did a good job.

What a handsome little man! Any remaining scars will just give him something to talk (brag?) about!

Bummer. Bad enough my cracking molar needed a crown. The night before my appointment, a sore opened up along the gum line, and this morning they tell me it’s an abcess forming, and a crown is no longer an option. I’m going to have to get another implant, because the tooth next to it was weakened by a root-canal, and can’t be left unprotected.
Implants take about a year, and cost about what a used car used to cost.
Arrgh!

My two implants took less than 6 months, but they didn't leave fond memories.

Fortunately I love my oral surgeon and his staff. Besides being pretty darn handsome and very nice, he and his staff maintain an atmosphere that strikes a good balance between professionalism and casual good natured-ness.
Very soothing when you’re coming out of sedation to hear them talking amongst themselves.
Part of the procedure involves removing some of my blood to spin out my platelets to combine with the cadaver bone for the bone graft. I will have to remember to ask them to put me under first, then draw blood. My veins are notoriously bad and last time it took about 4 tries to get the needle in a vein. I was trying hard not to whimper, but ouch!
Often the only vein that can be accessed is on the back of my hand.

Last week, eating pizza...crunch! Right back molar disintegrated. Dentist put in a temp filling and made appt for yesterday. Yesterday...realised I had something foreign in my mouth, turned out to be the front tooth from left side, OMG ! At least it was the lower jaw. I was due to attend a work luncheon so wasn't too worried about my gaping gap...they know me well. Off to dentist now...

I whined to my dentist that the worst part of getting old is our teeth falling apart, and he said he hears that at least 3 times a day.

Two phases down, 3 to go on this implant journey.
I’ve had the extraction and bone graft. Last week the implant post was installed. Both of these are done under IV sedation. During healing, there are a couple different attachments placed on the implant, and finally my dentist makes a crown and screws it into the implant. Likely won’t be finished till sometime in 2023.

I broke a piece of back molar 2 weeks ago. Yesterday the dentist said she would try to make an onlay (or inlay) -- I didn't understand the word because she spoke French but told me they use the English name for it. Looking it up, I realize it's an onlay.

Happened to me a few months ago, fortunately nowhere near as bad as I'd feared (not much fun while the dentist cleared out the weaker bits of remaining tooth, though). First time I'd heard of an onlay, and I hope it'll be the last (onlay the lonlay ...) My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

Could this be the same as a veneer? Probably not since they use the English word for it. I looked it up -- an inlay is put into a broken tooth, sort of like a filling. An only is placed on top of the broken part once it has been cleaned out, as Patrick says. Less than a crown since the tooth is alive and retained as much as possible.

I just returned from the dentist, after the last of three visits to deal with the broken tooth. I now have a nice onlay matching the colour of the tooth.
She first had to remove the old filling to see whether the tooth was solid enough for an onlay instead of a crown, then cleaned it and put a temporary cover. Today she removed the temporary thing and put the onlay.
It took about 2 and 1/2 hours altogether over the three visits and it cost 250€, 2/3rds of which I will get back from the health insurance.

I have a painful tooth infection. Fortunately I was seeing the doctor this morning for something else and he has prescribed antibiotics for me.

Jeffers had the rest of his upper teeth removed this week...shame as he had a lovely set of choppers when I met him...but they had to come out. So whilst he awaits his modified denture I am feeding him soup and teasing him mercilessly....'Jeffrey..say superstitious...say superfluous"... If he says 'effervescent' I need to wear protective clothing you know...

I thought that dentists did everything they could to save teeth. I'm surprised that they would remove several at once.

Jeff has gradually lost his teeth over the past 10 years or so...we reckon it may be down to smoking plus the meds he's had to take for the last 10 years. They looked fine to me..unlike mine which are not white and lovely like his were...mine are generally ugly and full of fillings...but I hate the thought of false teeth.

Dammit, my crown fell out tonight while eating something chewy. This will be the forth time in about 15 years. In the past, I always had the feeling one or two days in advance that something was going to happen, but this time it was a surprise.
I am still happy to be a faithful customer of the Hôpital Rothschild dental school because I can go there tomorrow morning and have them cement it back in within an hour at no charge but I always hope that I will never see the place again. The last time was about 4 years ago.

I just went to the dentist because a tooth was a bit sensitive. It turns out there is a cyst underneath, not much bone to hold the tooth. Ah, the joys of aging. Anyway, I have to get a conebeam x-ray, then probably get an implant since the tooth is in front. I am not going to re-read Kimby's posts about her implants because I understand that implants in the upper jaw are more painful than in the lower one.

Well, since my last report, I had an extraction of the area under my crown, which turned out to be disgusting with infection. Then I waited for three months to see if everything had healed properly for an implant. And no it hadn't, so I had to wait an extra three months for the next step -- on July 20th. I am probably lucky to not experience any pain from this, but there is the psychological trauma of having a hole in my mouth. I will probably soon understand why most old people stop fighting and just let their teeth fall out. Naturally, one reason is that so many of them can't afford the additional charges.
